my dad has a 1400 k-series & has had a few efi probs, i'm considering getting a scrap k head & making a maniflold & putting bike carbs on it then a rolling road for a setup? whats the opinions, it would have a manual choke too! so simplicty of the conversion is the key point for him rather than power etc etc etc

theres a 100e in this months retro ford mag rockin a set of mikunis from bogg brothers.
apparantly it was fit, fit bike fuel pump, rock out.
but there have been whisperings about bogg bros of late...dunno if its workload problems or what. didn't James have problems with them?
they can take up to 1bar of pressure too so crack out the forced induction.

get a fuel pump off the same bike, then fuel pressure is perfect
make a manifold bolt them on and fiddle with the settings.. results will be stunning..
guy on our local polo forum had a conversion on his 50hp bog standard 1100cc polo lump, he bolted the carbs on and put it on a rolling road and it did 67hp..

its sounding too easy now! seriously! a good m7 had r1 carbs fitted on his mi16 at bogg bro's & that revved like a bike after soounded awsome! pulled the tarmac from the road too! really responsive
seriously i can make a manifld no trouble but i'm just wondering about mixure & linkage etc etc
if its as simple as matching bike carbs & fuel pump, can i use say a metro turbo fuel pressure regulator & get the mixture from there, i've not looked at bike carbs so i don't know if there's a mixture screw? theres an idle screw, my cbr400rr had one
if it could be running in a weekend after my making a manifold i'd have a bash! should be goo on a k-series i think!
i think its a decent option if i bin the troublesome efi
thats handy to know that some bike carbs can handle a bit of boost ;OP sounding more interesting now!

bike fuel pump has an auto stop function, just pumps till a certain pressure the carb needs then stops...
match the pump to the carbs and you won't need:
fuel return
pressure regulator

got a scrap k seres twink head today for nothing, the valves, springs & collets are mint & just need a decoke so they will go on egay  going to try to get a set of bike carbs & matching pump today for nothing! or cheap as possible so i can make a intake manifold, it'll be in mild steel 1st & as small/short as possible so i have basiclly a jig to make them up!  what would be the best carbs from a bike to use on a 1.4ltr k-series twink, carbs from a 600cc or 1000cc, should'nt be the hardest to get the intial bits made up n fitted, its setting them up i'm phased by really |

some suzuki gsxr 750 carbs should be good for 130-150bhp (if the rest of the engine can make that much.....)

theres a 100e in this months retro ford mag rockin a set of mikunis from bogg brothers. apparantly it was fit, fit bike fuel pump, rock out. *n Thats my 100e ;D Mine were indeed a complete kit from Bogg bros using mikunis from an R1 with a matching fuel pump.I went for the lazy option of a complete kit as i wanted the car on the road a.s.a.p & theyve been on there over a year without needing any attention. They really have been a case of "fit & forget" If you can make your own manifold then id just get in touch with boggs & see what they recommend for the carbs & jetting etc as I'm pretty sure they're familiar with kits for the k series too. ;D   |

Is there any problem with making a manifold out of mild steel? I'm gonna make one up to fit the GSXR carbs on the pug but all the manifolds i've seen are ali.
May be a silly question!

have the mikunis literally been left alone once set up? no fiddling (like webers )?*n Yep,all I did was bolt them up,set up the timing,have a quick fiddle with the mixture & they've not been touched since march 2006,in fact apart from a leaky rad ive not touched anything on the car since it went on the road. The only problem I had with the setup was with a 2nd hand fuel pump which I got off ebay-when we first tried to fire the engine up it had an intermittent misfire,the pump was replaced & its been fine ever since. I should also add that they were fitted out of the box & have not been set up on the rolling road because ive been too lazy!! Ive not even connected the choke but they fire up ok & after its idled for a minute you can plant your foot to the floor & there is no spluttering or hesitation The car sits in traffic on a red hot day without any coughing or farting either Oh & the car just went through its mot & the tester was curious about the carbs so did an emissions test & told me it was well under the legal limit (2.5% I think it registered) |

oh that is one bloody cool car! ilove these old fords & this model & shape! i know once bike carbs are setup they don't need much fiddling they seem to be better than car carbs in that respect! i think i may give this a bash!
i'm not going to be doing it for performance just the ease of getting rid of crappy rover k series efi that has probs! if i get a few more ponys that would be ace!
old geezer where your carbs rejetted or did you just fiddle the mixure till the plugs looked ok & it ran well?
what size engine is your car, & it is ace! the motor looks ace on the bike carbs

Another bike carb question (sorry to invade the thread)!
Does anyone know whether the Mikuni 40mm carbs on the GSXR1100 are directly interchangeable with the 36mm jobies on the GSXR750? I think the 40mm ones might be a bit OTT for a 110-120bhp 1360cc engine but if they are interchangeable I could make a manifold using my 40mm carbs while on the look out for some 36mm jobbies.

thread hi-jack is fine on the fitting n setup of bike carbs all info about it is helpful! from my inital look at the k-series head i'll have to make the inlet pipes from the bike carbs kink inwards & sraighten to fir the carbs as the yare all linked in a quad situation are'nt they! & of course i'd like to employ the bike linkages to make the install as easy as possible! i think i could mod the rover throttle cable & a choke is a piece of curse word to put in! would anyone be interested in a writeup of my little project! & give hints tips if i go a bit skew in my ideas to dso with it? i can do pics of the whole manifold making etc etc |

I too am looking at bike carbs, but my headache is in finding 2x what I need as I need 6 all in, and don't want to buy 3 or 4 when I never know if Ill buy a matching pair!  |
