This might sound strange but did you drive this down a lane just out back of Hatfield because I saw this exact truck yesterday! small world - that was me! Amazing! The truck is seriously stunning, I was so surprised to see a step side on my morning commute, highlight of the day! Hope you enjoy it and Ill be following this more than a little envious. If you're local I hope to see it at Harpenden cars on the common next year.

Big box of stuff arrived from the States this morning. Happy with the contents but less happy with the £42 bill for import duty and delivery :-( Got a tailor made cover for the truck just in time for the British Winter

My truck is fitted with Chrome Chevy Rally wheels, somewhere on the journey over from the USA it lost it's hubcaps. I've been wondering what sort it used to have and where to get them since I got it and completely forgot about this - which has been hanging on the wall in my garage since I picked it up in a junk store in America on holiday about 5 years ago. Only bought it because I thought it would look cool on the garage wall, it would fit in my hand luggage, and it was only a couple of dollars! Didin't give it any thought until today and I've walked past it a million times. Tried it on the truck and it fits perfectly! Now I just need three more ;-) Anyone know where I could try in the UK?

Happy with the contents but less happy with the £42 bill for import duty and delivery :-( Having been hit for £30, in duty alone, for a part that cost £15, I'd be more than happy with your bill! I do like this truck very much though.

Despite the damp and miserable English winter weather I took the truck up to a small local meet at Krispy Kreme's drive through last week. This is the first 'show' I've taken it to and a few people seemed to be admiring it. There were some nice vehicles there today despite the weather...... Then came back and did a few jobs on my truck (with no help at all from Henry the Basset Hound) Just one minor job done on my truck today. I've never really liked the front number plate and frame fitted to my truck. I don't think the British plate looks that good in an American Licence plate surround so I swapped it for a UK plate which I think looks better.

Its very unusual to see cars like that out on the street during winter here. Amazing there are even meetings in the salty season in the UK.
As much as I like the truck, but I would love to see it completely standard as it was in 1964. White, with the original rims, the heavy duty back bumper and so on. An original one must be a lot rarer than a customised one nowadays.

Had a couple of truck related e-bay scores this week. I’ve been looking for ideas for windscreen washers as my truck has jets fitted but no switch, pump or reservoir bottle (I guess it never rained much in Texas!). I didn’t really want to put a modern switch in the dash which would look a bit out of place so was pleased to pick up this manual pump for a couple of £. I think it is from a 1960’s Morris 1000 so British, but the same era as the truck. Also picked up this 1:18 scale model pretty cheap from eBay in Poland of all places – couldn’t resist it.

Couldn't for the life of me work out why your place looked familiar as we've never met. Then I remembered, I picked up some wheels from the side of your place a few years back for another RRer down in Fareham! Getting old is no fun! Pretty sure the dog made it clear he knew I was there though! Nice truck by the way. Bit like the old 1/32 scale Incredible Hulk one.

A few jobs done today. I swapped my steering wheel from the wooden one that came with it over to a new white one which I preferred but the horn mechanism was completely knackered and the threads on 2 out of 3 of the bolt which hold the wheel on the boss were totally fubarred, so I ordered a new boss from Moon which came today. Old one………… Horn now fixed and steering wheel properly fitted. New one…………. Also fitted a reversing light as where I park is right up against a fence which is low and hard to see. The truck never had a windscreen washer system (guess it doesn’t rain much in Texas!), but they are an MOT requirement in the UK so fitted this as well……….. And a cut off switch which is easier than disconnecting and reconnecting the battery whenever I’m working on the truck………… Reversing light and washer pump needed switches so added these under the dash and also a 12v USB socket for phones or Sat Nav…………… Looking for a chrome rear bumper if anyone has one?

Nice work - love the new wheel, just remember to keep your hands clean I have a new chrome bumper and irons for mine but it's a Fleetside - I'd willingly swap it for a scabby painted version if you hear of one..

PS - I see you have a washer button on your wiper switch - is that live..? The wipers work of that switch but the centre button for the washer pump doesn't work. For convenience I was going to wire the pump to the red push button on the left of the panel under the dash.

A cracking day this weekend at Rian’s place yesterday for the ‘Bodgit & Scarper’ garage monkeys working on my truck – actually that’s not fair – Martin and Grizz do the jobs properly, carefully selecting the right tools and materials, the same can’t always be said for me! The plan for the day was basically for Martin to weld on the new rear panel I picked up at the Essex NHRA swap meet a few weeks ago, and to wire up the reverse light I’d fitted. When we got there, Martin showed me the chrome side step he’d rescued from a skip at work It’s from a Ford Ranger……….. ………which just goes to show that modern Fords do have some uses, even if it’s just cutting bits off them! A few ideas were thrown around between us and the original plan to fit the rear panel quickly went out of the window. The truck has always looked like something was missing at the back (as far as I was concerned), and I always like having something that looks factory stock (ish) but that no one else has so that big bit of chrome pipe seemed just the thing. So we went from this............. To this.......... I don’t like to waste stuff but Grizz wasn’t keen on the exhaust modifications on his truck we mocked up from the off cuts while he was making tea – can’t imagine why??!! So the original plan was to weld on a rear panel and wire up a reverse light. Neither of those things happened but lots of other things did, which just goes to show you can rely on planning too much. Some stuff you have to plan a bit though – what Grizz was kind enough not to mention in his write up in his thread is that I actually fabricated 2 sets of brackets for the rear bumper as I made the first set after ‘guess-timating’ how long they needed to be and finding they were an inch too short! Anyway, a great day and as always my thanks to Rian and Martin for their hospitality, assistance and know how.

Great day had by all. Totally agree, the bumper turned out to be a better option than getting that roll pan welded on. Martin took this photo when Kerry was reversing in. Trust me, it's the best way to do it. Imagine how much fun it was for him to reverse all the way down the drive. Thanks for picking up my new, used vent windows that I bought off Evilbay, an hours drive from your place, they are so much better than the ones fitted. For those not following all the various linked threads, This had to be collected on the way over as well. Kerry had picked up our spares earlier this week including my pair of expensive but on inspection really good vent or quarter windows. Today he swung by Martin's place to pick up the little buckled Honda for me on their way over here. Just to show he did not just give orders, Kerry fitted his own parts too. In the mean time, Ian carried on with the cooking duties. At some point we all poured into the house and scoffed ourselves stupid on three types of sausages, spicy chicken wings, pork belly, chilli chicken breast strips and rolls..... A proper mans BBQ. Great to have you over mate. Sure we will have another Chevy C10 truck BBQ before winter hits us, over here.

I picked up a set of 16 inch wheels from a '61 Chevy to go on my '64. Will look something like this when done......... The seller owns a lovely red Apache with the pop up load bed cover which was nice to see in the flesh as I've got the same cover on order, quality and fit were impressive. Pictures don't do the truck justice, it's really nice. He also has this '60 GMC long bed which he's imported to the UK and is giving a once over before selling it on :gmc2:
