Exciting times Ian! I also had a trailer wheel come off when towing and wondered what went past me! Interesting dynamic question as to why they end up going faster than the trailer?? Anyway nice to see progress on the Spridget.

Once free of the weight of the trailer they have less rolling resistance and can achieve greater speeds. That's my theory at least. It's either that or the Law of Comic Effect.

5-4-3-2-1 Houston, we have ignition But first a short message from our sponsor. I don't know what it is with selfies and videos but I keep getting photobombed by a short, fat guy with glasses who vaguely reminds me of my dad. He certainly does not remind me of the young, handsome, debonair gentleman that stares back at me from the bathroom mirror every morning saying "The name's Healey, Frank N. Healey" while holding a Walther PPK and looking for Miss Funnyfanny. Anyhoo message and disclaimer over. SWMBO went over to see her parents so it was an apt time to test the SpridJET ignition module. This is a bang box from Andy Morris of jetbike and turbojetkart fame whose Youtube feed you can find here www.youtube.com/user/TurbojetkartI thought I could do back-to-back tests with the shonky Chinese Ebay stuff but I had cleverly hidden that in the boot of my car which SWMBO had taken to her parents. BUM. Realising we're playing with 20kV and the nearest defibrilator is two miles away (and the dog is not trained to use it) I was very careful with insulation. I don't know if the phone camera auto adjusts but it reluctantly picks up sparks after the first one. So complete with the old guy and the jump leads with the incredibly strong springs the first video To get a better picture tried it from the side and video I'll try the Chinese stuff down at the Volcano Lair during the week.

I would be more worried about the dodgy tunes than the Bang Box stopping my pump.... P.

Ho Le Cow...... I'm as close to that thing as I want to be. The noise..... it just sounds like it wants to bite......hard
I always thought you looked like Steve McQueen. You need a stunt double who looks more like you. Are you going to serialise this in the Woolbridge magazine too?

More years ago than I care to remember (or if the truth be known, 'can' remember!) I trained as a Merchant Navy radio officer - I can still hear the dire warnings ringing in my ears from the lecture of the dangers of 2kW RF zinging up your arm if you touched the wrong bit during fault finding, not to mention a 1000vdc on the valve tops!
Having said that, those videos take it to a whole new level!!

In the words of one of my tutors "It's not the volts, its the amps that kill you".
A normal points style iginition system needs induces about 20kV when the secondary coil "collapses", but they're not fun to get zapped by. Also, when doing nerve compression tests for carpul tunnel, they fire 30-50kV down your arm. But both at low amperage.
Still hurt like a curse word and if you have a dicky ticker, then probably not best to get zapped at all.

Indeed it is the amperage that does the damage. When I was in the packaging industry, we had recycle bins that recieved chopped up plastic - in dry weather they'd give you a less than little zap when you passed them, especially if the dope of a machine op had removed the earth strap. I measured a particularly vicious one - it had a static charge of 8-10,000V on it......

It seems, a cheap disposable lighter can pump out 25000 v but as said there's no amperage behind it. Was once advised that an electrician should keep one hand in his pocket, so any tickles don't run across the heart, Ttfn Glenn
