Hi all, I'm a relative newcomer to posting on this forum after very infrequently lurking in the shadows for many years.
This thread has been a very enjoyable read from the start to where we find you now. The musings and continual deliberation are something I can relate too heavily! Never quite knowing what avenue to go down next.
I myself have a classic commercial, a 1959 Commer Superpoise tipper Mk4, so it has been inspiring reading another commercial getting the love they deserve. When I'm free to get into the project a bit more, like others have said, I may well create my own thread and give a bit more detail on it all. But for the time being it seems fairly pointless. But I'll explain that in due course, anyway, I digress,
Keep up the great work Glen, would be great to see it about in the coming years (seeing as I am Kent based too!)

Yes, please do a thread. I nearly bought an ex-AFS 4x4 Superpoise and have always loved the look of them. 👍👍

Fabulous picture! My home town, depot was on the A40 West Wycombe road next to the chiltern railway line IIRC. Now RH automotive, some alterations to the building, but I think its mostly still original... Street View

Any more updates Glen? Tenterhooks here! 😅 I'm afraid not at the moment. It's too cold to be doing much right now and there's bits dropping off the Land-Rover so I'm having to prioritise that.

there's bits dropping off the Land-Rover Don't worry, Sir, that's normal. Once it has rained a bit and all the nuts and bolts have rusted up it will be fine.

An entirely unrelated project, my lad’s D-of-E task, saw me taking some stuff to be sandblasted the other week. In order to make the trip worthwhile, I dug out the three wheels that I had stripped the tyres off some time ago. One of them was particularly scabby, but I thought it worth the risk. They came back looking a bit healthier. However, the scabby one was actually rusted completely through at one point, so I have just put it back in the stores as is for now. A repair is possible, but not really something that I would want to do unless it proves impossible to source a replacement. The other two got a coat of our favourite rust converter, and I’m currently mid-way through the primer coat. Once they’re top coated I’ll set them aside for a while to cure fully, then I’m going to bite the bullet and buy two new tyres. 😱

What paint goes over the favourite rust converter ? I am giving Rust-Oleum Combi-Colour a go, as it gets decent reviews and is available in RAL colours. After much prevarication and discussion with my lad, we are probably not going to replicate the original green parcels livery, because most of the roadworthy survivors are already in green, and we’re also not going to go for the red of the general fleet that JOY worked in, because the lorry will likely always have to live outside, and reds are so badly prone to fading. We also think that, given that neither lorry worked in those liveries for more than a handful of years, and GUG had nearly twenty years further work outside of BRS, that painting it in line with a post-BRS working life is probably more appropriate anyway… So the wheels are still going to be red, but the bodywork will be unwritten and most likely done in a grey reminiscent of the shade it was painted in by the fairground, probably a generic “Ferguson tractor” mid grey, which is much more stable under UV from what I can see.

I have suggested signwriting the sides “G P Anderson & Son, Kent-Europe-North Africa (mostly Kent)”, but for some reason my lad’s not keen. 🤣🤣

I would love to see it in the old British Rail Burgundy and Cream colours with the "BRITISH RAIL" logo down the side of the box splitting the colours, probably been done to death already,

Like this one I have in my miniature fleet? I think it looks very smart, and burgundy is a personal favourite of mine, but it comes back around to the red based paint again.

I think 'FUN FAIR' on the front and 'The Great Andersono, Human Cannonball, flies through the Air daily and twice on Sundays'. I might even buy tickets
