hi chaps,
thinking of selling my mercedes 420. i don't really get the time to use it and could do with some money for my other projects.
the bad points far out weigh the good so bare this in mind.
the engine is a 4.2 v8, it has a straight through exhaust which blows in the middle, upto the standard backbox - sounds nice when its not blowing! its an automatic, gearbox seems to work okay to me, maybe a slight hesitation into gear.
it runs great really, doesnt start too bad for an old car, but it does smoke a little, smells oily. not enough to bother me though. it will need a gearbox mount or possibly diff mount (not sure) as it has a knock if you are hard on the gear change.
the wheels are genuine 17'' amg aero 1, which are one of my favourite wheels ever, powdercoated in a grey/blue colour, one centre cap not fitted but is included. the tyres are all great with lots of tread. there are some wheel spacers on the back.
the suspension is stock mercedes setup with cut coils, its reasonably bumpy but not too uncomfortable, most of the time you don't notice it because you mainly think about how cool you like in a beat up old merc.
the body work is appalling, such terrible condition for a car with a mercedes badge!! the bonnet looks like it has hosted the uk cat drifting competition, there is a dent to the a pillar and roof where something has fell onto it. the bootlid has paint falling off. there is a couple rusty arches and some rust on the rear panel which is not great. many different shades of blue all over, scratches dents etc, you name it. its very bad and ideally needs a respray if youre that way inclined.
the interior is lovely tired black leather, the front seats arent too bad, the rears have seen some abuse. the leather doorcards creak as you drive along, to remind you of the luxury car you are sitting in. id say around 50% of the equipment in the interior works. i think most of the windows do. one door does not lock with the central locking. the sunroof sticks on so you have to stop it with the switch manually. the dash clocks and interior lighting didnt work at all and the suddenly the other day they started to work again!! i cant garantee they still work now though. there is a panel which goes underneath the glove box which is unfitted and in the boot, along with a wood trim which is to be fitted to the glove box lid.
there is a pair of spare headlights , dash clocks, steering wheel in the boot.
it has got a really annoying clifford g5 alarm which is fantastic, ive never had such a high quality item in a car before. there is a jvc stereo ill leave in, the front speakers are blown.
since not using the car very much, the brakes have gone a little weird and sticky, probably due some new stuff. i will aim to get this sorted before anybody trys to buy it.
it has a private plate which is worth around £650.
to sum up... it is what it is !! i don't want to pull the wool over anybodys eyes and say its a great car, because it's not, but it does look pretty cool and is fairly useable! come and have a look at it and see for yourself.
i only have a few pics for now, i can get more on request.
thanks for reading.
