I own the following vehicles at the mo.
1965 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight with the 425 big block 1966 Buick LeSabre with the 340 small block 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury with the 318 small block 1986 Chrysler Fifth Avenue 318 again. 1976 Ford Capri 2.0GL
Quite appart from having the least successful last 12 months of my motoring life which has left me a little mojo-less, I also have a 6 week old baby and there is still stuff to do in the house.
What I think I am missing in my life is an absolute road shagging monster. I used to think my Buick was quite quick, but having owned some other stuff since I have to say it no longer has the edge. But I still like it as a car.
The Olds is powerful but rather heavy! some tuning will improve it but its more a high speed cruiser than a tarmac shredding monster.
The Sport Fury could be done, with a big block conversion. Mopar stuff is way up in price ATM so I'd have to buy carefully although I did have a line on a decent 440 suitable for a rebuld for £650 not long ago. However my plan to sort various daily drivers and other more urgent things (the creeping rot in the Buick for example) means I hadn't planned on even touching this car until like winter 2008 or maybe 2009!
The Chrysler is currently slated as the daily driver with a warmed oer small block and some other stuff to make it a little more spunky.
Capri would be a laugh with a 302 in it.
But I also have it in mind I really want a proper old school T bucket or turtle deck. I have a couple of lines on building one /acquirig one part built.
ALso also there is a part rebuilt Opus model T on eBay at the mo which would be an easyish job to finish and get out there.
Although part of me thinks I'd be better with a car with a roof as I could daily drive it then and I did love my old 100E V6 rod, so maybe best to get another one of them (I know of a couple for sale) but nice as 100E's are, they ain't no T bucket.
So I want to fix up all the cars I own and add a T bucket, the Opus and a 100E.
SWMBO won't stand for any of that nonsense.
I feel the need, the need for speed, or at least big smokey burnouts and a snarly V8 engine that makes the ground tremble.
And a hot rod.
And I'm off to star in the Passat advert part 2 as I fear I'm hvaing a bit of a mid life crisis having jyust become a dad and panicking I'll have to be all responsible soon! And not having really been doing much recently or achieveing much I almost feel like life is passing me by.
And then other times I feel like I want to spend maximum time with my daughter so I don;t want to be messing about with old tat cars so sell the lot and buy one (or two!) "done" cars and not worry about "garage time" for a few years?
So stick it out with what I got, make some changes, chill the hell out, make on offer on the Opus, what?
Any thoughts?

First up we need pics of all items concerned. I know the feeling TBH i'd like the world of retro, then i'd be happy with a fire breathing MR2. but then can bear to sell a few more. good to keep the numbers up so the GF knows the ownability benchmark! what could you bear to lose? a yank tank? why not sell a few and fettle your fave yank into a monster or keep one as a cruiser and build summat mega-mental and unpractical? So long as theres a seat for the tot she'll love it forevAr.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

part out the rustiest one of your list and drop the motor, trans and axle in between 2 lengths of 2x4, and stick a body on it or sell one of em and youll be able to buy a resonable glass bodied rod for the £££

Man, your life is complicated AK. I suppose if time is tight and mojo is AWOL, then having 3 or 4 projects on the go could be asking too much. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but maybe it'd be worth slimming down the fleet to a couple of projects and one working, taxed, tested retro as a daily? Maybe you are having some sort of life-crisis, but... a new Passat is not the answer. At the end of that path lies doom. Or at the very least, Eamonn Holmes' wardrobe.

I need to see these vehicles to really pass judgement, but i've always had a real soft spot for the 5th Ave, although thats prolly the least desirable.
I really ouldn't know what to do.

Hmmm, I feel your distress. Here's some thoughts in no particular order. I'd love "loads of cars" but I know its not realistic partly down to having no garage/storage, partly not enough money and also because there is more in my life than just cars. Personally I can't really cope with having more than three around the place. There simply isn't enough time to think about more than that let alone work or make any progress on them. One of the cars is Katies to get to work and needs to be reliable. The second is a bigger family wagon and the third is a project. One day I will build a rod but that time cannot be now so I enjoy blatting around the place in other modified old stuff. There's no need to become super sensible and buy a Passat. You won't be able to re-live the growing up of your daughter. Mine was 2 last week and is a joy. I know I am lucky to be around at home all the time to watch her develop. Making time to be with her and my wife as a family is important though it helps that Katie enjoys car shows too! My opinion is that you have too many big American barges that would all kinda perform the same function regardless of their differences. I'd sell at least two of the sixties cars (keeping the one that is closest to how you envision it ending up) and perhaps the 'Fifth Av too. This leaves you with a big yank for those days when a lazy V8 burble is what you're in need of. It'd also give you enough money to buy something silly and quick to smoke about in - either a finished basic car or a nearly finished project. If time is what you're short of there's no point throwing a load of money at a bunch of parts that will sit on the corner of the garage for years gathering dust. Better spend it on something you can use and get the enjoyment out of.

There will be no Passat purchasing (unless its a Mk1..) I think I have a certain amount of "bag upon me" as they say in Loughborough, due to being in an odd and changing situation where I have to be a bit (if only a bit) responsible and also it seem s along time ago that I used to have a few cars that worked, a couple were how I wanted them, and a couple in bits. Seems to be a long way from that now and nothing much I do seems to get me much nearer to that desired position. The fleet looks like... Olds: Buick: Plymouth Chrysler Capri What a sorry looking pile of tat!

i like all of them. what you need to ask yourself is that if you sold say 2 of the big yanks would it be enough to get the third working as you want it? If so, do it.

Right after seeing the cars and thinking about it I have come up with.......
Sell the buick, Olds and Capri.
Keep the 5th Ave as a Daily runabout and get that AWESOME plymouth fixed up. When thats at a reasonable level of togetherness buy a rod either half done or basic but roadworthy!

Aye, the thing was the other day I had an afternoon to myself, I thought "great I can get on with something" and really, I just didn't know where to start or anything so I sat and watched telly instead.

Here is a leftfield thought,..
How about a total reset... if you are having a mid life crisis might as well do it properly...
Sell them all and buy one thing you REALLY want...

Ah, the problem being that I don't want "one thing", If I had a big pile of cash and some space I'd just spend it all on more tat. I'm incurable. Although one proper nice car would be a nice change

Sell them all and buy one thing you REALLY want... What do you really want, as aserial hoarder i realise that not easy to answer but a clean slate is appealing at times
