You are right, both those cars are too new...... But at 34years old, the mixer needs its own thread (The other stuff stops you working on the mx5, so though not particularly thread worthy they can still be mentioned in dispatches (I enjoy reading your thread too, so carry on))

Our kitchenaid blender went on the blink as its made out of metal but the part that makes everything swirl is plastic...guess what snapped into three pieces 🤔the spare parts cost a fortune to boot.
But worth it rather than some crappy Argoosed special...man am I cheap!

Very similar plans to mine! (mine is rusty and red too) I love the anti-MX5 way you've gone with this. No camber or home brewed turbos. It still looks like an MX5 which is always good! I can't help edging towards some MeisterR suspension though... The Meister Rs are bloody excellent on an MX5, fact. Greatly recommended. Built a hillclimb one for the ex with all the trick bits and those were my favourite change, worth the 3 month wait at the time too. I promise you that the day after your warranty runs out on Gaz shocks you will need to send them back for repair.

Discovery fixed and as predicted the ball-joint didn't give up without a fight, a £349 fight including MOT!
Lack of cake will bring project mixer to the fore this weekend as well as trying to fix Alfa door.
Still need to replace a brake line and window actuator on the Disco as well, and front brakes on the Alfa.

Taxed from 1:April, insured from noon 1:April, MOT until 18:April. Started first turn of the key, bit of smoke but seems OK. Topped up oil and water, took the hood down and brushed off the worst of the mould then waited until noon! Got in car dropped the drivers window to adjust the door mirror that had been folded back, and it broke off in my hand (guv)! Steering wheel has faded a bit as well. Anyway at noon I went for a hoon! So what needs doing - replace door mirror (£46 for a new painted mirror, or ~£50 for a pair of Raydot style from Moss?) - get a quote for restoring the sills etc - get a quote for a bodge job to get it through MOT - sort out handbrake - fit bigger brakes to front - use it until the MOT runs out If I can get it through the MOT - do a track day - save up to get bodywork done - drive to Goodwood for the weekender (but only Sunday) - drive to RRG Mark p.s. It's amazing how often you use door mirrors, I kept looking at the non-existent mirror.

So need ideas on removing the stub of a screw from a thread without damaging the surrounding, painted, area. Yes getting the mirror base off required me to take the top off of one of the retaining screws. Can't fit the Raydot mirrors as they won't fit my early model Eunos. I'll buy a pair of unpainted standard mirrors from MX5Parts, might paint them Gold :-)

Looks like that’ll need drilling out Mark! At least it’s at a nice height and angle to work with. Maybe tape something protective on the surrounding area in case of a drill slip??
I’ve got some silver mirrors if you’re interested??

BTW MOT runs out 18:May not April so got 6 weeks to have fun.

There will be MX5 content but first I had to fix the Alfa (again)... It's been intermittently not pulling below 2,000rpm which is classic EGR issues, confirmed by reading the error codes. For once it's reasonably easy to get at and remove the EGR valve, and predictably it was full of soot, no before picture. Didn't have any carb cleaner but sessions with brake cleaner, engine degreaser and finally Gunk concrete driveway cleaner (I've got block paving so don't know why I've got this) got it all nice and clean. Mid operation below. Put it back on and car started, proof will be driving to Weston-super-Mar tomorrow. The worst bit was getting the plastic engine cover clipped back on (why can't they use screws?). Anyway back to the MX5 and the door mirror, and excuse to buy tools I bought a set of screw extractors and some cobalt drill bits, first off protect surrounding area, Then use new tool, after drilling into screw, and it was rubbish, or I'm rubbish at using it or the screw was well and truly rusted in place. So I used increasingly larger drills and somehow got to the point where a screw will actually screw in (not sure how as the thread is well and truly screwed up...) So when I get a replacement mirror it will be carefully screwed in using stainless hex headed screws.

I rather cheekily asked goldnrust if I could visit him and try out MIG welding, so yesterday I had a great drive up to Worcestershire with the top down to see if I could weld. After a chat about cars and rusty MX5's, he's repaired a few over the years, and some reminisces about Spitfire's. We got down to the welding... After an explanation and demonstration of what to do and lots of useful tips I had a go. A bit of Spitfire (old) floor-pan was wire brushed off. First run too fast, second too slow (hole), third run not too bad, fourth run way too slow (big holes). We than moved on to butt welding a slit in the metal, with a series of 'tacks' and I'm quite pleased with the results. I was having trouble actually seeing what I was doing, looking for the puddle of metal. Far right demonstration runs, left - bottom four my attempts, top - demonstration of overlaid tacks, middle - butt welding, mine in the middle. Do I think I can weld, yes with some practice it might not end up looking pretty but I'm sure I'll be able to get a strong join. I'll never be up to the standard of some on here but for what I want, i.e. keeping the MX5 on the road, it'll be OK. Just need to practice, so I went away with a bit of Spitfire floor-pan to practice on. Off to Machine Mart next weekend with a vat free voucher. As a bonus Steve has the same welder that I'm going to buy. This is a great example of what RR is all about!

I know what you're thinking MX5's don't have an EGR system ,he's working on the Alfa instead of the MX5. In my defence I'm waiting for my welder* to arrive and I'm still having some issues with the Alfa so I fitted this, will it be Magic. EGR (partial) blanking plate, the hole are to stop the EML light coming on, very simple to fit quick test drive and seems smoother but still not great pulling away below 2000rpm. Think I'll order the blanking plate for the EGR inlet as well. I'm also waiting for some replacement mirrors to arrive so I thought I'd clean up the mounting bracket, attack with wire wheel and then chuck in citric acid to maybe clean the inside (not sure if this will work so call it an experiment). Meanwhile the Discovery has got an intermittent saggy bottom and the drivers door window regulator needs replacing. Mark * ordered a Clarke 135TE welder, a bigger O2 bottle, auto dimming mask, welding gauntlets and some more wire, so next week I can start practicing welding.
