I used mine as a daily for nearly 10 years. Cheap to run and own, simple to work on and fun to drive. Only car I've had that I've ended up looking forward to snowy conditions lol As others have mentioned they bimble along nicely at 50-65mph fun but you won't want to do more than 75mph on the motorway. Never found it a problem and I was doing very regular 180 mile trips between Birmingham and Kent and mine a had totally stripped interior. Buy the best you can afford and you'll suffer no depreciation. I'd also say get a traveler of you can. I found improving the A Series breathing, lowering the car and fitting disk brakes made a massive improvement over standard. As they're not fast you'll also become a master of conserving momentum

i have a 61 minor no engine mods except alternator and air filter i drive it everyday work is a 20 mile round trip , my other car is a s2000 but i prefer to be in the minor

Has the engine been converted to lead free? Could be a bit of a hassle to add octane booster every tank.

we had a minor van with 1098, suicidally slow, wipers are terrible in heavy rain and you have to totally reconsider your braking distances and corner entry speeds. However. it is charasmatic and you'll make friends at petrol stations. Some modern tyres and a disc brake conversion would help and watch for RWD drifts in the rain at very low speeds.

Yes it's quite easy to get the back end out, but due to the quick steering (2.5 turns lock-to-lock) it's quite easy to catch. The vans had a low compression engine with 43bhp, the saloon engine has 48, and that's quite a difference on the road. Stuff such as brakes are easy to uprate, often with several options depending on budget and performance level, also you can get a 2 speed wiper conversion, heated rear windows and heated screens (not for the split screen though). How much you upgrade is up to you.

I used to drive a ford pop 100e every day for a year but it chewed its engine up as it was side valve just be aware older cars have slower wipers no fun in the rain keep it up together it shouldn't be a problem electronic ignition is a must and light up grade

I've been driving my series Land Rover for 13 years now, no regrets. Had a lot of problems with reliability in the early days, but modification and servicing is the key. I'm not scared of mods like disc brakes, better lights, seats, alternator, 5spd box etc.
