Good news. I've finally bought the engine as I'd been planning Arrived today, 1600 block with some goodies like an Ashley 4-branch, electronic ignition, Weber 32/36, ally rocker cover and some more bits. Should be pretty nippy compared to my almost standard 1100 Car looks the same, just been enjoying it and stuff - the cinq has an MOT so I have a runaround while the engine is out the Escort. Going to build it up on the stand and then get it in one weekend. Deciding on colour, I kind of like the blue but if anyone has any colour and product recommendations speak up

I'd say paint the engine the same sort of colour mine is in the 205. Its 'metallic black' apparently but looks like this

This just gets better. If only they were nearer my price range i'd have one in a heartbeat.

Thanks guys. tedmunds, you'd be surprised! there was a complete one advertised recently for £750 in better condition than mine was when I got it. Obviously most of the cars and parts are way overpriced but I've kept mine as low-budget as possible

Turbosport is the best bet hands down, a few imported ones turn up cheap on there. If I had to buy another one that's what I'd do.
People frown upon them as they're not 'genuine UK cars' but I'd prefer one as 9 times out of 10 they're more rust free and a better base to start from, especially from SA

Few more pics because why not. Funky double rose-jointed adjustable alternator bracket I've always thought it was a bit quiet too. Ashley manifold should enhance go faster-ness and noisiness. I've always wanted a side exit so that might happen Lumenition electronic ignition, another thing I've always wanted. I'm curious to see how much better they are than the conventional points There's a load of extras including a complete set of gaskets, k&n filter for the weber, alternator, and a lot more. Basically it looks like I have everything except a fuel pump (and maybe the odd thing or two) as this was going to be used with an electronic one, so I'll use my 1100's one probably. And the hoses as they're new, and my old radiator. Oh and the stonechip tide mark needs to go, and the mirror, and the arch, and the window rubbers and about 5000 other things...

You ever want to sell it, you know where I am When I changed my 1100 for 1600. It's like a little rocket as I left the 4.1 rear diff. Do a good one wheel burnout

Don't be greedy you've got a 2-door, that's my dream haha. I'll be leaving the 4.1 in too, but I'm going to put big tires back on so I can go faster than 70 haha. I was hoping it would maybe do burnouts, the Pinto powered ones seem to do them really well Center console is made by Quikfit, but I gave it to the guy I got the engine from. His Escort deserves it more than mine though

My wee pushrod is tickled a bit, but my older, pretty much standard 1600, did great burnouts. And was an absolute hoot in the wet!

Time for a little update. I was still dailying it until I got the Cinq through an MOT and on the road. Starter on that died about 2 weeks ago after 11 years and I have zero motivation to touch it so the Escort is taxed and insured again. I missed it, feels so much cooler! I will do the little Renault soon, just when/if I can be bothered Anyway back onto the Escort. I met up with a cool photographer and got some photos Found a random rolling photo on FB of me driving it I cleaned up the manifold ready for the engine swap. It's got brand new stainless bolts and gaskets for everything so I'd like it to look quite nice when it's in there. Surviving the cold mornings Also been trying to keep it relatively clean Aaand just driving it a lot and enjoying it. I've done a lot more that I don't have pics of, dents pulled out, interior improvements, water leak fixed, exhaust fixed, little tweaks that I've been meaning to do for ages and some bigger stuff. I'm probably going to throw the banded steels back on it for winter and give the Slotmags some attention - one of them has the inner painted black and looks great, all the others are silver.
