Got the nice new K&N Filter on, cumbersome airbox + brackets out. Dizzy cap had other ideas Just waiting on a new one after being sent the wrong one twice in a row. I've got a feeling it's not gunna start when I get the new one, my kind of luck..

I guess it was just brittle plastic?
Just make sure you put the leads back on the right order, it'll fire up.

Haha yeah, it's just that I don't know if driving it back with the broken one (couldn't clip down because it snapped where it clips on) did the dizzy any harm? Hope not, but I guess I'll see - new one should be here tomorrow. If it's all good then I'll finally pull the trigger and buy a full new carpet with some sound deadening, they're pretty pricey but it'll be worth it since it really needs one. It's the only thing the car is missing and I've got the wheels ready to go on too. Really want to make it to Retro Kings in this so I'm hoping for the best edit: seen the response below, thanks I'm probably overthinking.,

Think it's dead. Sorted it and got it started but it ran out of fuel on the way and doesn't start now I've refilled it. Running out of patience

Nvm problem solved. Fuel hadn't quite gotten there yet + the second ignition coil was a bit bodgey so even when it had gotten there it wouldn't start

No updates really, waiting on some lenses for the rear lights to replace my cracked and cloudy ones. I'm debating whether to get black/silver plates too - I think they'd tie in with the age of it. Just been driving and enjoying it mostly, fuel consumption has been questionable, the gauge is very inaccurate too hence running out of fuel. The diff doesn't really help, it's got the 4.11:1 diff and you change into fourth at about 40/45 which goes all the way to 80 (fastest I've gotten to in it) Photo from last night, with a certain Civic Shuttle..

I just done did a radioz. Being a base model Escort it shouldn't have one, nor a center console. Connected to the parcel shelf speakers in the back. Cleaned it too, I'm going to polish it up again and see if it comes up shinier but it's not bad already considering it's the factory paint. I'd like to polish it up with a machine polisher, but buying one is low down on the list. Retro Kings is coming up too, so I'm looking forward to taking it down there.

Factory paint???any updates on the 5? Factory paint yeah. I need the driver's side door resprayed though, it irritates me a fair bit. Nothing on the 5 yet, what I do depends on a few things. I'm either going to sell it or take the entire dash (awkward on a 5) out to do the wiring. I really want to keep it and finish it, I don't like getting rid of things and it was a nice car before it went tits up.

Broken dizzy cap came in handy. Using it as a cupholder mounted on the kick panel. I've never owned a car with a cupholder so I finally have one

Haha yeah, thanks. 10 minutes ago it had another 'moment' Started spluttering and losing power before the engine died, rolled to a halt. I'm lucky it's always in safe places. Anyway, this time it didn't run out of fuel so I'm wondering why it did that. I know it didn't run out of fuel because it started up again 30 seconds later. It's weird, really weird. Not long until I nickname it Herbie..

I've just sat and read all 6 pages. Really like what you are doing with your escort. Keep up the good work

Just had a look through your Astra/s thread, liking it too I don't really have a direction I'm going with the Escort, I just use it for everything and see what happens. I have a very clear idea in my head of how I want it to look and drive, which is basically how it is now but coilovers, a brake upgrade and CX's instead of banded steels. I'm horribly tempted to get my ATS Classics from the R5 plugged and redrilled to 4x108, nobody has ever put them on an Escort and I think it'd look pretty cool. Oh and another pic of the lenses. The difference is much more noticeable in person, I'm really happy with them for the little amount they cost.

Successfully made the 150ish mile round trip to Retro Kings this weekend, been out and about in it a lot too. Over 1000 miles done in it since it passed the MOT a couple of weeks ago. Might be picking up a new set of wheels and tires on Friday, and chopping the springs a little on the weekend if I get them

You VERY successfully made the journey there and back in horrible weather too. I'd say the baptism of fire for the MK2 is complete. Looked really good in the rear view on the road too.
Was a really pleasant run mate.
