So a few months back I bought this Mk2 Escort (pictured alongside the other one) Anyone know the deal with these mirrors? Was it just an optional extra? Plans are to get it through the MoT, then either restore and sell it, or to do it in a similar way to the other one.. I'll update it as progress goes

What an amazing unmolested example. Get it modded, quick! Thanks! Getting it (legally) on the road is top priority, but first thing after that is to get it lower on some slot mags or wellers (like the other one) It's so fun to drive too, as is the other..

Nice car. My parents had a '78 1.3L.
The mirrors were an option. You could have none, one or both.

That Escort is a gem (as is the slightly lower one)...!!!
If it were mine I'd get it totally solid and roll as it is...

The last two letters of a suffix reg give the licencing office, so GS would actually be Luton, as CL was Norwich, as was EX, and BJ was Ipswich. Eye Spy Books did a book on registrations which had the full list in, but I suspect its somewhere out there on t'interweb. I saw a new Weller wheel at the Gathering last week. They're doing what amounts to a Lotus steel for about £70 a pop. They'd look lovely on your green one.
The Weller representative at the show was amazed at the interest that particular wheel was getting. He should check out our scene!

Thought I'd try both escorts out today, but the orange one had a dead battery so sadly it resides back in the corner with some junk for now The green one however fired up straight away, so I took it for a quick drive round the block and everything on it is faultless

Thanks! That van is really nice. And thanks also, the green one has the standard 1.1 but the orange one has a 1.6 X-flow with twin weber 45's and some Burton Power bits.
