So I got all excited as I booked my tickets for my first ever retro rides gathering, booked the hotel, made plans with some friends that were already going to be going down there (It's a good 4 hour trip for where I live), I bought some new Compomotive wheels for my Mercedes 190e Cosworth aaaaand then... SMASH. Car has been stripped out so very light on rear end, put some power down to get up a hill and the back end kicked out, I tried to correct it but it had already gone, did a 180 degree spin, smashed the rear wheel in to the curb and the front bounced over the curb and smashed the lamp post... Thank GOD my new compomotives weren't on! But yeah, chances of going to RRG this year are very slim indeed

Currently trying to ix mechanical side of it! Changed 4 suspension link arms and the bottom spring plate and it is much much better but is still slightly bent Thinking the hub is also bent so going to replace that next to try and level it! If that doesnt work then either the subframe is bent or the chassis is bent and I will not fix that! The car will be then broken for spares for my other cosworth, but then that means no RRG

I could come in my Seat Leon Cupra R but that is an 03 so no where near retro haha. I shall find out this week whether I will be able to come down in it or not, I am hoping so!

How far are you from RRG14 ? As said above, if it's safe and driving ok why not drive it as it is? Front wing in pic1 had a sharp bottom corner that need fixing/removing, looks like that's been done. Rear wheel in pic2 looks close to right (difficult to tell from that angle)

Did exactly same in my old 190e. Needed pretty much the whole corner running gear changed. Once done it was laser aligned by Mercedes and needed some adjustment to get in tolerance of factory spec and declared fine. Worth getting yours checked, as you've found they can be a handful even before a crash repair. Good luck getting sorted, these are getting rare now, worth fixing!

I am just shy of 200 miles away from RRG and that is a long way considering only the outside edge of the tyre is touching the floor, the inside edge is about 5mm away from the floor.
Once I change the hub I am hoping it will be sitting correctly! It will then be going for laser alignment!
What have I learnt from this? Never run cheap tyres on the rear of a semi powerful and lightened car...

Looks nice on the compomotives. Sorry to see it accident-damaged but at least you've got it back together and straight again
