Another vote for the 306.
The E30 might make sense now while the kids are still young, but there is no leg room in the back once they're older.

I can't believe that nobody has suggested an E30 Someone did. A few posts ^above^.

Sorry. So they did. I kind of skimmed through looking at photos rather than reading text.
Agreed that there's not an awful lot of legroom in the rear of a factory convertible. The Baur is as good as any other 2 door E30 - not great, but better than the convertible.

If you don't mind a targa top over a full convertible then theres the Nissan 300ZX There were convertible versions too but they all seem to be 2 seaters rather than the 2+2, again I fear rear space will be tight though..

If you fancy a Saab go for an old one. The post-GM cars were recycled Vauxhalls developed and built on the cheap. And they feel it!
Audi TTs are really only two seaters.
As others have said, it depends on your budget. The XJS looks good to me!

Saab for the win - c900 are great but for a turbo they are not cheap. Lazy pub experts will tell you not bother with post '93 verts - but this is ill-informed tosh. Sure gm900 & 9-3s not built as well as c900s but they are still very worthy cars.

Thanks gents, a fair few I'd not considered, especially the E30. Budget is probably up to 6k but I'd ideally like to be around 2k-3k. Whatever naughty man suggested XK8 is putting ideas in my head. Have you seem how cheap the fixed roofs are? Silly amount of car for the cash.

Almost everything else I thought of has already been mentioned so I'm just going to go on ahead and suggest a Skoda rapid cabriolet.
Or a mk 4 escort. They tasty. Or a Fiat strada.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned a Rover 216 cabriolet - especially a Honda powered model

For the budget, drop in a fun engine, lows and wheels, and have good summer. Good enough for Lovejoy....

Got to say E30. Just look at it my man. Pull up next to an E30 in the Pug and tell me you wouldn't rather be in the E30. I do also like the Saab, the W124 Merc is up my street but the real leftfield choice is the mk2 Cavalier.
