NOW HAS NEW COMPLETE EXHAUST AND MOT. BEING USED DAILY- 28th October
Hi guys,
time to start sliming down the fleet and first up is our early Mk3 Escort.
It's a 1.3 cvh 4 speed in Strato silver with the rare light blue interior. The car is an early version meaning the triple stripe coachwork, road sport wheels and A- frame headrests.
Bodywork.
structually the car is fantastic. Floorpans, inner wings, chassis rails, boot floor, battery tray etc are all original, never welded and rust free. If you clean the underneath it comes up silver!
On the outside the car has a handful of dents and scrapes which can be seen in the attached pictures. The rears of the sills have been replaced with butt welded panels and on one side the bottom of the arch has also been replaced. The drivers side rear arch ideally wants replacing but a splash of silver paint will get it through an MOT and tidy it up for now.
All doors have no rust, the tailgate has some slight surface rust only on the inner frame and the front bonnet has rot on the inner front frame. The outside edge seems to be uneffected.
The paintwork shines well enough but has scuffs here and there, a few blended sections and there are a few different shades when up close.
No bodywork will be required for the MOT other than tidying the drivers rear arch.
Interior
A very rare early light blue interior in great condition with original Ford front mats. The dash has 3-4 cracks on the drivers side though these have not got any worse in the 5 years we have owned the car. I have a complete set of door cards and seat covers in the loft as spares as it is very hard to find in this colour. The seats are still firm and tight, indicating that the 65,000 miles recorded may just be genuine. The rear parcel shelf has a speaker mounted centrally and there is also a speaker in the centre of the dash as original. I do have the original radio for the car but it is mono and so wonty work with the 2 speakers. No wires have been cut.
Mechanical
The car is showing 65,000 miles and the car always felt tight with no clonks or vagueness to the steering. The engine is quiet for a CVH and was fitted with a brand new Webber 32IBF during our ownership and converted to manual choke. I always serviced the car with genuine motorcraft oil filters and Castrol gtx. The timing belt was replaced roughly 6000 miles ago.
Whilst off the road the rusty exhaust was removed, the exhaust manifold faces have been skimmed and bolted back up with new studs and nuts. A new Walker downpipe has been fitted but the car still requires a new centre and rear section purchasing and fitting. My local motorfactors have quoted me £40 for this.
The car had new discs, pads, flexis and master cylinder for it's MOT in 2013 along with a full set of brand new matching Fulda tyres. The brake pads are the correct type with electrical connections for the warning lights on the dash.
We took the car off the road in 2013 to sort the exhaust, rear arch and a weeping brake line connector but after saving and buying a house this has not happened. The car is stored at our property in clean condition on winter wheels.
The car will need to be towed away and to gain an MOT will likely need the leaking brake line looking at(pedal now goes to the floor), a new exhaust and a battery.
I will genuinely be sad to see this car go and becuase the structure is in great condition, you can tart it up while you drive it.
I would like to see £600 for the old girl which I think is very fair for one of these as the values seem to be going upwards constantly. Try finding one for that price elsewhere with all those new parts and an original unwelded floor!
Any interested parties please pm me and I will respond with my contact number.
Kind regards
Daniel
