Finished off the front speaker install last night. Typically, I broke one of the x-over covers! Oh well.
Russell got roung to mounting the rear number plate, plate lights & camera last night. Didn't get pictures as it was dark but suffice to say, I was astounded at the picture quality on the rear camera considering it was only £25 from ebay!
This is the bit about build threads I don't like lol - Sounds like 10 minute's work but it was actually about hrs work over 2 evenings as Russell had to fabricate a new steel mounting, rewire the lights, make a loom for the camera etc etc.
We are hoping to do a full day Saturday as that is the only day we have free this weekend. I need to install the amp & subwoofer ideally as we need to find out what needs removing from the drivers seat to make it fit a P100 (The height adjustment part I believe) Also I want to fit my NEWLY RECOVERED 4 spoke RS steering wheel!

Big Update time.. Even though I had to work until lunchtime Saturday, Russell was up and working on the truck at 8am! Here is a run down of what we got done in one 12-13hr day. Mrs SmokeEm, armed with a toothbrush, cleaned up the rubber pipework & hoses etc Also gave the plug leads a clean Cleaned and copper greased the bonnet catch mechanism New front number plate fitted As the P100 was originally manual, the only mod to the pedal box was clutch removal. This meant I had a 'Normal' sized brake pedal. Not ideal. Russ tasked me to come up with a plan... The result is as pictured below (We welded a plate to the std brake and then fitted these) With most of the wiring for the hi-fi install already done, I wanted to get the whole thing finished so I got started with the Subwoofer wiring loom New underseat Subwoofer - gonna be a tight fit! The sub remote Now fitted in place Only JUST fitted Oldskool Caliber CA70 Amp - chosen for its size & decent 4ohm output at 12v (Ebay) Installed and wired up Tea break time (AKA time to drool over Russells latest purchase) Drooling over, I got on with the inside whilst Russell was busy welding the exhausts Newly Recovered 4 Spoke Wheel (Thank you Turbo Mike!) Now fitted - What a curse word of a job that was!!! I assumed just a bolt on swap! Wasn't a priority to move the tail pipes but it was winding Russ up as much as me, so voila (Still need moving a little to make the same) Hi-Fi in and tested - Sounds AWESOME New clear repeaters fitted Passenger seat fitted Here is probably, the least most interesting picture. Whilst admiring my handy work, I realised that the company I work for, made the glass in the truck... It's at this point, I need to bore you for a little while - Myself & MrsSmokeEm's biggest passion is watching drag racing - Therefore, this truck needs to be the perfect partner for our 'Pod weekends' If any of you have spent a weekend at the pod, you will know that there is no shade or rain cover anywhere! To this end, I want to be able to take a pop up gazebo, chairs etc in the back. I would also like a refridgerated cool box etc in the back so we came up with a plan to run a power cable to the rear of the bed cover. Once finished, I will have 2 x USB phone chargers & a Power socket for the coolbox in the back. Just a small job of threading the cable through... When the original builder built the truck, he put this handy box in the bed too Power cable installed Russell looking very pleased with himself - trust me, he's happy in this pic lol Then we thought we had better get that awful job done - changing diff oil - what a hassle! In this shot, you can just about see the power cable we ran Our newly updated worklist Only jobs left to do before MOT are change the fog light bulbs, fit new switch & adjust handbrake. Once she is MOT'd, we can get around to recovering the bed, putting in underbonnet lights, buy new wheels etc etc. That is all for now folks - All feedback is welcome.

Looks great mate. I remember when you used to see these everyday on the roads, normally completely rotted out. Great work!

with regards to the coolbox, these tend to be fairly hard on batteries, so I would strongly consider a second/leisure battery to power it, with a splitcharge relay to keep it topped up when on the move. you don't want cold beers and a flat battery......

I hear you mate but it's really only going to be used for short periods of time to keep water/soft drinks cool. I am installing a voltmeter alongside the socket so I can keep check on charge. If it becomes an issue then I will have to do as you suggest.

I do aim to make the bed cover electric by using a gate actuator and a pole switching box with remote.

Small update. Isn't it funny how the small jobs seem to take the longest! Anyhow, As Russells boss stacked his M3 in race 2 of the Kuhmo cup last week at Donnington, he had to pop down to Hastings Saturday to strip it (Next round in 4 wks) so we only had Sunday on the truck. My apologies for the photo's but they were taken rather hurridly after a very long weekend that included my birthday celebrations and at my age, that takes it out of you a bit.. Excuses aside, She is now back on her wheels and underneath is finished. I will take better pictures next weekend but the exhausts are now moved to where I want them to be Fog light bulbs changed means only handbrake adjustment required for MOT Rear power socket panel made and partially fitted. This was designed to make sure that the cover cannot close with anything plugged in so that I won't forget about it and return to a dead battery. There will be 3 switches when finished - two for bed lights and one for the Volt Reading. We have also made allowance for the coolbox socket to be used when driving so hole in side of panel done ready Now, we all know the old wheels & ride height vs practicality argument. As is typical, I want to fill the arches but it HAS to be practical and believe it or not, the choice in 4x108 Flavour isn't great! The plan is to use 16" wheels. Now, my choice is either Escort Cosworth wheels or some 'Others' that I have seen (10 wk wait!!!) I think I am going to have to be quite creative with the rear tyre profile as 50mm blocks already fitted! For the front, I think I will just 'Lose' a coil and go with 45 profile rubber Anyhow, we hope to get a few evenings in this week finishing interior niggles etc and then put in a full day next Sunday to sort out the brakes. MOT being booked for Sat 13th which I am hoping will be lucky for me! Once MOT'd, we can finish off the rest of our checklist and I hope to have it on the road early October. What do you reckon guys/gals?

Why thank you sir. It's the nice comments that make me realise I am going along the right track. (You wouldn't believe how many negative PM's etc I had when building the Cortina)
This 'Modding' malarky can make things too personal but everybody being so nice keeps me going.
