They were too good for what they cost! The reality is TVR was a low volume production, hand build, English sports car made in a warehouse somewhere up north but because they were so fast, all magazine comparison tests had to pitch them against Porsche turbos, Ferraris and other cars costing 3 times more. Look at the lap times in the back of Evo magazine the later model TVRs achieved they are amongst the big boys and don't forget TVRs don't have electronic gizmos to help out the driver while driving hard. Not even ABS. Plus they look so good and the designs still look fresh to this day. Wicked cars.

I think it's an age thing. You think "TVR" and you get mental images of mental 90s and 2000s very fast, badly built cars that have to be pitched against Ferraris and the like to make sensible comparisons. I think "TVR" and I get mental images of MGA based Granturas and ford based 1600 and 3000M that were only marginally faster than the cars they were based on and more expensive. I think I'm right in saying you could have a 3 litre Capri and a Mini for the price of a 3000M. Not to mention a Scimitar GTE and change. Have a Grantura:-

One day, I'll have a Griffith. Achingly beautiful, powerful, light, affordable compared to period competitors... Here they are horrendously expensive though.

I'm gonna chime in here as it'll be my only chance. My neighbour used to have a cerbera and I was always in awe of the shape of the car, no doorhandles and those huge wheels tucked in there. Then one day I saw the interior... it's so marmite but I gotta say, I love it. Totally organic in shape. One day I will have one.

Mate has a very tuned Griffith competes in the TVRCC Speed Championship,yes bits fall off it now and again,yes sometimes the electrics don't work but on soft compound tires there is very little that will live with it in the real world for the money.

TVR's are brilliant. So theatrical. Always sound fantastic, barmy interiors, massive engines, no driver aids.
I would love one a Griffith or Cerbera have always been my favourites, but I think I would be scared to drive it hard haha.

Several years ago me and a group of friends were in Lyme Regis (bear with me....) towards the west end of town there's a T junction where to turn right onto the main road you have to do more like 110 deg rather than 90.
A boggo Corsa exits the junction engine screaming and tyres spinning like mad. To$$er is the consensus of the group.
A Griffith was behind the Nova and does exactly the same thing except with TVR noise and it lays down two 10 inch wide tyre marks while doing it. That was cool says one...nods all round from my mates.
Don't know why but that always summed up TVR for me - play the hooligan and it lets you get away with it.

I like Tuscans because they have an enormous willy moulded into the bonnet. And as any kid will tell you, that's just plain funny. Most sports cars are dismissed as penis extensions, but how honest were TVR to actually make it look like one too?

I really loved watching the Tuscan racing when I was a small boy, really wished he'd made a road going version, I thought it was such a looker. I only know of one converted for road use.
