Possibly a silly idea, but if you want to keep things simple, a 4A-GE silver/black top mated to a RWD celica/supra/hilux gearbox. Given you got Levin's in NZ, the motor's should be readily available. And at 1.6L and 120kw, they make for a spritely, revvy little drive. Or SR20VE or DET

Plenty of 4age engines about but going up in price now. Plus been done by two at least, other vivas here in nz and I want to do something different. Yeah I like the idea of an sr20 but keep it n/a as cheap to buy and pretty economic.

If you can fit a 4A there's a good chance you can fit a CA without much extra effort as well. Obviously an 18 isn't going to be cheap but you should be able to pick up an r31 pintara for pickles over there as well. Pretty solid motors and could donate brakes, etc as well if you felt the need. If one can fit in a minor without too much hacking you shouldn't have too many issues. CA20E isn't that great for forced induction mind, but if youre keeping it na that's a null pointer. Its a long box, though. Could, get you some measurements if you wanted.

Good info. Yeah long boxes end up poking the stick out to close to the handbrake. I think sourcing a cheap engine will be easier than a cheap suitable rwd box but are plenty here.
I love cr500doms tiny 1.4 engine in his kaddet though can't remember what it is?..

Land; I wasn't sure if i should update the oldschool cabin thread as I thought people might have seen enough gorse for now. maybe an update showing some of the treasures we have found under the blackberry... Yes please, I watch oldschool NZ just for that to be honest, its a dream I don't think I will ever fulfill to move to NZ, now that I have two kids, the Mrs doesn't want to move away from the family.

Ah huh cool. Will check them out. Ha- always happy to upset the purists and fit Ford into gm... I had previously fitted a x/flo into hb one and that ruffled a few feathers :-)

Silly question, but did you guys over the ditch get the EcoBoost Falcons? 2.0L 4cyl turbo could be quite fun whilst still peeving off the purists.

Not sure about black bonnets. A bit over done now like roof racks full of tat. But then the same could be said of widened steels which I love. I see what you mean about the shut line at the rear maybe not working with a cream roof. Will have to see when we get to it. Which will be a while away yet... :-( ^^ was thinking something along the lines of a factory viva gt estate - black bonnet but maybe not the air scoops? those wheels they really suit it down to the ground - damn fine choice! what about sr20 on toyota 20v itb's
