On a 4 post lift it's okay to use those points, I've seen images from the production line with the cars jacked up like that also. The car is very solid, moreso than my old NA. Using a single jacking point at the front would be a bad idea and could bend the floor, which would be problematic for the floor mounted throttle pedal. Randy - It's a 911 track car in Brumos colours. The seam welded one next to it with 935 parts is more interesting... As for my car, I've been having troubles with the gearbox lately. 5th gear would pop out, then a few minutes later it was almost gone. There's a horrible rattle if I reverse and then dip the clutch. Parked up, the car shifts nicely, and it doesn't grind gears on the move either, so I doubt it's synchros. Linkage would be another possible culprit but it's that sound of little pieces of metal floating around that leads me to believe the 5th gear dog ring is fatally wounded. I still have the low miles 924 NA engine in a garage and managed to do a part exchange for this, a rebuilt G31 dogleg gearbox with paperwork to support. It's been sat under a work bench for a few years and was bought as a spare for a 924 Turbo rally car. It came with gearbox mounts which look to be in excellent condition. It'll be going to OPC Cardiff early this week to be swapped over and I might as well have the linkage refreshed at the same time. My manual sports seats are at the trimmer getting a bolster repaired too. Hopefully next weekend I'll be mobile again!

Picked it up today, came to 9 hours in the end, ouch! The Technician apparently stayed on 2 1/2 hours late to see it finished and not have to sleep on it! In the short journey home it was very, very quiet. Shifting is as sharp & precise as a new car, only with that proper mechanical feel, let's hope it stays that way! Hoping to be at the Bristol Queens Square meet this Sunday if anyone else is going? Sits nicely with a spare gearbox in the boot...

I can't stop looking at those wheels. What sizes are they and what size tyres?

Why the spacers? Is it purely to fill the arches? There were huge spacers on mine when I got it because it had d90's fitted. I thought the spacers were too much so wanted to get rid and get early offset wheels. Mine is a 944 ( retrorides.proboards.com/thread/149756/porsche-944-yellow ) so I'd be going for the 8 or 9 on the rear -probably 8 to keep sensible as regards tyre prices. How much do you want for the 7" fronts? I assume they are reps? Although I am fairly broke at the moment & I did buy a set of 16" Azevs for mine..... but the more I look at Fuchs in 16 inch with dish.......hmmmmmmmm

It's not fair to call this car a problem child, although I've picked it up after a few days away once more. After the gearbox was fitted, a well meaning valeter pressure washed the bonnet. Paint was bubbling and sadly a bit came right off! Happily, the contracted valeters for OPC had insurance and the bonnet was resprayed. I felt like I came out of it well, the bonnet would've needed painting and due to this little accident I got a resprayed bonnet for a very small contribution. I don't mind paying towards it since it's come back a lot better than I initially left it! So far during my ownership it has spent about half the time away at Porsche or without 5th gear but it hasn't bothered me in the slightest. I'm in for the long haul and will take the rough with the smooth. I didn't manage a road trip last year, but tickets for the Spa 6 hour historic have been purchased and in a month I'll be there! Working shift and getting 2/7 weekends off means I have to make my own entertainment during the week whilst missing out on most other meetings, so it's going to JMG Porsche on Wednesday to flirt with boost pressures and have a good tune-up & check over ahead of Spa. In a rare weekend off, I'm looking forward to heading up to Oulton Park to for the 924 racing and then off to the Gathering on Sunday! Some long over due photographs of this evenings enjoyment:

It does look great.
I know how it can feel a little disheartening when a new purchase can develop little faults or niggling situations. I had my own recently, when a simple oil change ended with my needing attention via the angle grinder and welder. As you said though, I too am in for the long haul.
Anyway, glad all is well and look forward to seeing it at RRG.

This is a beautiful thing!
What have you done in the way of suspension? I've recently acquired a 944 and it needs some attention to get closer to mother earth.

If its any consolation Felix, in the first 3 years of ownership of my turbo I only had my car drivable on my own drive for less than 12 months of that period. Since getting back on the road last year its been in my possession pretty much all that time. A record! Get rid of all the niggles and it will be fine.

Progress: Should get it back this week. Light skim on the head, with new valve guides for good measure. Hopefully I'll have time to bond with it before it breaks again!

I take it the coolant was being pressurised or had you near enough lost a cylinder? It would have been interesting to see what caused it although I guess it could have been old age. I am sure you shall rebond with it upon the first turn of the key despite the expense, in addition to possibly gaining a bit more power! Besides the head gasket and mini head refurbishment what else shall JMG be doing with the car? I do wonder about getting a 931 truth be told, seeing as I have come back twice to the world of frontrunners! I sure as hell do miss the whack of boost .

The coolant was being pressurised and it was missing slightly at idle. I drove it hard down to JMG and I think this was a rude awakening for the HG since the car had done very few miles over recent years. That said, it had a new HG about 8 years ago and a bottom end rebuild. OPC Cardiff are doing the work, much closer to home for me! That said, there have been holdups which I don't think JMG would have, now waiting on some bucket screws since the valve clearance was off. Fingers crossed for next week now... I've got dibs on a Carrera GT DITC module too, which will give me more power too. To be honest, I'm chasing reliability over power for now. I've owned the car since July and it has been 6 weeks since I last drove it!

Wow! Now that's pretty, I had a positive spec 924 in gold/brown it was awesome!
Very cool and unrated I'd say.
