Yeah... I was thinking of running ducting from a vent hidden behind the chrome bumper. The only decent place to put the filter for cold air feed would be down the bottom by the front but I don't want to filter getting caked in curse word from the road... But I'm open to suggestions/advice? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

got quite a lot done tonight its nearly 12:00 and ive just came up from my cellar plastered in degreaser and paint haha stripped, cleaned, "gasket sealed" and painted the rear axle and springs, welded up some lowering blocks and had longer U-bolts turn up in the post
I have also started collecting bits for the turbo's manifold and down pipe too!
stripping and degreasing the rear axle; ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150407_214040597_zpsumx4dczv.jpg)
painted the rear springs; ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150407_214027636_zpsxxrij2ja.jpg)
didn't get any pics of the lowering blocks n stuff but I painted the rear axle, brake lines and other bits ready for assembly tomorrow... sneaky peak of what it will look like; ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150413_214342203_zps3s0u492t.jpg)
![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150413_214219980_zpsq4bkcu2w.jpg)
I should clarify the reason the brake lines are not clamped to the axle and are miles away from anything is that the paint was still wet ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)
and its not much but ive started collecting stainless bends and v-band clamps and the like to start actually welding together for the little rotating snail shell of boost ; ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150413_175543799_zpsq36q70f8.jpg)
now if all goes to plan I should have the axle back on tomorrow (technically today now glancing at my clock) and be able to see the car lowered all round on the new wheels and roll it up to my (now free) garage... then welding lessons are in order I think haha
cheers Craig

I put my oil return into the sump, tapped it with a 1/2 BSPT thread and just used some ptfe tape to seal it. It worked really well. Just make sure that all of the oil return line us below the oil return outlet on the turbo so it's a nice downhill run for the oil back to the sump.

also james how did you lower the compression ratio? I don't want big dents appearing in my bonnet from launching pistons out the block lol

Haha, I should have when I started using about 10psi of boost. The rod went through the side of the block though, so the bonnet was fine ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) You'll be fine up to about 6psi before you get into the danger zone. As long as your injectors are up to it of course (my injectors are for sale if you need some 430cc injectors) there's loads of info on turbo miata.

quick update! got all the axle and stuff fitted on the weekend, put the wheels back on the car and moved it to a safer location... have to say sitting in it being towed along through my home towns and villages was brilliant fun! the whole time was spent smiling like a Cheshire cat, with people stopping and looking and even kids commenting on the car saying it was "sick" or something. I don't really know, I'm only 21 but I don't use language such as that anymore haha
anyway..... all in all a very good weekend, and some nice photography opportunities. but yeah, I thought id just let the pics do the talking so here's what the car is looking like at the moment... enjoy ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I'm not going to comment on the legality of that towing, other than to say i'm glad it got to it's new home ok. I love Hillmans of all shapes and sizes, I look forward to following it more, the work you have done so far is excellent, even if everything isn't to my personal taste, but then it's your car, your choices ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

So the fuel rail is now mounted in place (with one bolt, just waiting for the others to arrive) And I also had to take something off the intake plenum with my grinder to get it to fit, but it was was nothing important...... I hope! some quick pics, also the bottom pic, the big pipe take-off under the throttle body... Does anyone know where I plumb this to? I'm guessing it's an air pipe? Bare in mind there's now a turbo involved Thanks ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0103_zpsqhmga6yt.jpg) ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0102_zpsldhzpfsm.jpg) ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0109_zpsi3gpwtrn.jpg) Thanks again to all interested in my little project ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

The big pipe is the supply for the idle air control valve. I took the valve off mine completely and blanked it all off. I didn't run any Idle up features in the Megasquirt, just set the idle a touch higher (800rpm when hot) which meant that when i first stated it on a cold day it would idle at around 600 rpm and slowly increase as the motor warmed up. If you wanted to keep it you could tee it into the boost pipe just before the throttle. If you had it going to atmosphere there would be a pretty good boost leak from it when the air back-feeds through the valve!
You can also do away with the throttle body heating (the two water pipes on the bottom right of your photo as the turbo will make sure the air coming in is plenty hot enough!
James.

Cheers James ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Boring update but I've blanked off the idle control valve and also made a thermostat housing blanking plate as I'll be running a coolant reroute so won't be requiring that engine block exit any more! The new throttle bottle bottom: ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0146_zpsspokiy0t.jpg) The coolant blanking plate: ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0148_zpsjsiv9mc3.jpg) Also here's a before and after pic of the offending article that was colliding with the new fail rail. I took a chance cutting something I had no eyed dear what it was, but it was just a solid chunk of cast so did nothing major me thinksssss Before: ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0110_zpsmqj5l4ru.jpg) After: ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0113_zpskiiyyyvy.jpg) I'm trying to get back into the swing off things now since I have a bit more spare time now and a bit more funding from my job!!! Hurrah, Funding! the one thing you can never have enough of with a money pit project car! That massive lump as probably to stop some stress fractures after 200million miles on a road car (or it made casting it easier). I never ran the big support bar underneath it either on mine. Never gave me any issues and it also meant that it was easier to reach the bottom bolts for removing the manifold with the engine in. Looking forwards to hearing it run. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) James.

Progress is slow with work and a gf, and even slower now my daily is a '66 minx I'm trying to do up too Either way some goodies have been being delivered in the post, and I'm being bought a load of bits to make a proper manifold and down pipe for Christmas ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/IMG_20151211_140408_zpspt8bywt6.jpg) Just waiting for butt weld bends and screamer pipes which I'll weld into the down pipe as I don't think a screamer pipe will suite this car lol Also have a lovely light up boost gauge I need to find a respectable place for on the dashboard........ Hmmmmmmm

Thanks guys ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) much appreciated Well I guess the next thing to announce is the purchace of a rig welder!!! There's no stopping me now, once my friend gives me a few lessons that is haha Christmas saw quite a few confused faces when asking "what I wanted" then followed by me saying stainless pipe bends, waste gate and things.... Still it now means I can start properly again Still things turning up at work now from the posty but I've been getting screamer pipes, wastegates, flexi exhaust joints the works!!! Should also be getting a complete mx5 loom next week to help with the engine wiring I've started on the manifold tonight, hopefully get it all tacked up tomorrow, if not welded ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) So far: *ehem* ![](http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj523/craigfowler29code109/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG0689_zpsx6ictlx0.jpg) I guess that's it really, post some pics of the progress tomorrow when the fun stuff begins ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)
