I'm knackered, but the wing is finished Chopped some more out of the valance as there was a questionable repair to it .Again, all the welds were around the seam with only 3 of the 15 or so tacks actually holding it on (can be seen in this pic) Even the last weld looked nice And finished in: Its came out pretty well if i say so myself! There is some flattening and a little bit of filler work to make it nice and smooth on the joins as i couldnt get it perfect without it getting worse somewhere else. Just need to do the other three corners now, then get her painted in time for summer! If anyone wants to buy my Capri project follow THIS LINK It would help alot as it would mean i could afford to finish the hillman Time for a cold one! James

Amazing work, very professional looking. The only question I'd be asking myself now if I were you is..... What is hiding under the paint and underseal on the other side?
Then logically enough, what condition is the rest of the car actually in?
I'd be tempted to go round a corner at a time and strip everything back just to be safe!

That's the plan! I'm going to have a closer look at the other corner today after undersealing what i've just put in.
The front end isn't too bad, and the passenger side rear certainly doesn't look as bad as this one did. I might re do the rear spring mount on that side seeing as I have a repair section for it anyway.
I've found that Honeybourne mouldings make fibreglass front wings for £66 each, so ill probably stick a pair of them on and put some more bracing at the front end, rather than repairing the ones that are currently on there.

Nomad spares inc are back in business after a short break (via Scottish borders, The Lakes, South Wales, a top-secret army camp near Sailbury Plains and deepest darkest Yorkshire ) and after unpacking our latest bargain buys (a pair of 16ft sea canoes with extras , large & small chunks from a Hunter that was being broken, and a retro joblot - including NOS steel Hunter wing - from a house clearance )... I now have a surplus pair of new'ish never fitted f/glass Hunter wings for sale.
Available for immediate collection from Tyneside'ish NE23 (no need to wait for Honeybourne to make a batch ) I'll be happy to take £75 for the pair but all insulting low offers will be seriously considered Nice work so far with the repairs, good luck with the rest!

Started working on the front end today. I've pretty much finished the back 1/4 so I covered it in filler primer and left it at that. Chucked the battery and fuel tank in and it fired straight up! Once it was facing the right way i jacked it up and removed the front wing. Like the rest of the car this had been fiddled with and was held on by some wibblepoo welding, but mostly filler and silicone sealant. With the wing now removed i started poking around. This didnt go so well as i soon ended up with this: and these: ( yep that's an old wash rag used to bulk out the filler) and eventually this: I went mad with the grinder Looks familiar. Its the same scenario I was in on my first Hillman Hunter, but I wont be welding this one in with a stick welder! That's it for the weekend now. Might do some repair to the front section, but ill be fitting that in around the rugby. James

My spare frontend panels should be back from the painters next week then I'll have to rip panels off mine to fit the non-rusty bits

Its not as bad as i was expecting, but the previous repairs were much worse than i would have hoped. I don't like to belittle other peoples work, but the work that's been done on this is just shoddy The wings look like they'll be a good fit though Nomad, much lighter than the one i cut off as well! Been working on the big hole that was left behind previously today. I bought some frame rails from BMF to make it a bit easier to do, which it did! So now it looks like this: Not the best quality pictures, ill blame it on the shakes from not having had enough tea! Now I just have to reconstruct the end of the sill/A Pillar, add in the bracing and glue the wing on! James

Continuing with the ongoing saga of rust repairs, i have now got the wing bolted up along with some extra bracing to the strut top. I also mounted up one of my new seats. They were free, have runners and loads of adjustability and also came as a pair: That's the drivers side done now! Need to take it out the garage, move some stuff and then start work on the passenger side. James

It's been a hectic few weeks. Just moved house and now I'm getting the old one tarted up ready to sell. There hasn't been alot of progress on the Hillman, it's all bolted back together and Road worthy so I can drive it through to the new house.
Only problem is that I won't have a garage for a couple of months until I build one at the new house!
I'll get some more pictures put up once I get the Internet aswell, typing this on the phone us bad enough without trying to add pictures!

Are you going to paint the floor or just leave it white and cover up with carpet? Cars looking smart now that it's going back together, I bet it serves as a mojo boost when you start making look like a car again

I'll probably be leaving them white for now as I still don't know what colour I'm going to be painting it! Drove it to the new house yesterday, drove brilliantly, but brakes terribly! Pulls to the left, so I'll be robbing the good calipers off the capri to get it ready for next weekends shakedown run up butter tubs!
It's not as good as it looks in the pictures. But it's better than it was!
