Seller wants to cancel purchase due to shipping costs?

From my experience of shipping to Norway, it all goes on the postcode. If you`re in the middle of Oslo, all would be well, however, if you`re in an area many couriers would class as remote, they load the price with a hefty surcharge. A lot of Norway is remote!

Unfortunatley not.

I'm sending a small parcel to the States today - only 150g but falls into small parcel category.

Parcel2Go = £14.40 on their cheapest rate.
Post Office = £4.75


The parcel I wanted to send to the Ukraine (600g and still a small parcel)


Parcel2Go = £22.26
Post Office = £10.15

Now send a parcel of 4.5kg to the USA (as an example):

Parcel2Go = £36.00
Post Office = £67.25


As The Laim says, if there was a way to be able to just enter all the details and a range of prices come back to suit all types of parcel and postage, this would save many people a lot of time. Parcel2Go is cheaper a lot of time, but certainly nowhere near competitive for the stuff I've been sending out recently.

Until something is created to look at all the different postage options, the only real way to find out is to look into it yourself. Which takes a lot of time....or becomes very costly if you don't research.

Just got of the phone with Ebay customer support and they confirmed that the seller is required to sell, however they suggested we try to solve this between the two of us first, so I have sent the seller a third message were I suggest I arrange pick up.

something that has been missed out here is that this gearbox is in Northern Ireland (no affiliation). That means it has two seas to cross, not one. Quotes gained on UK sites are worthless if it's one of the sites that won't collect from NI.

Secondly as Compass pointed out, LOADS of Norway is classed remote. So a generic quote just doesn't cut it when the courier comes back with a £4 per 500g surcharge for the location.

Thirdly as MM pointed out, chasing quotes takes time.
You mention getting him to spend some time finding better quotes. Are you going to cover the £50/hour rate that he's going to spend doing that? never mind the two hours it will take to pack it, the materials to do that and so on?

Fourthly, ebay can go do one. A contract with them or through them isn't worth the virtual ink it's written with. They are full of bluster and only keep to their own regulations when it suits them, and I'm fully on any sellers side that cancels a sale. Ebay is FULL of idiots and is a very, very tricky place to sell car parts. I sell on there and my "idiot ratio" is currently 25% or higher. I have zero hesitation in pulling ads, selling outside ebay, refunding people I know are going to be hassle later - life's too short and it really is not worth the aggro.

Fifthly, "forcing" him to adhere to a "binding" ebay contract will get you a two word response. Try and work with him, alternatively take up the offer to get it moved around by a third party, the seller will appreciate it if you take the responsibility so all he has to do it put it on a pallet.

That's a good idea. Talking to him should hopefully sort things out

Not really, it was my understanding that the seller wouldn't honour his side of the deal and had stopped any form of communication, I don't happen to think that's good form.
