Two blokes tried to nick my Escort at 4am this morning from right under my bedroom window. New Cross, South London
Fortunately I'm a light sleeper and any noise I hear in the close makes me think someone is nicking my car - this time someone was!
They were pushing it, I'm not sure what they were going to do when they got to the end of the close and had to turn because it has two steering wheel locks on it but I can only guess that they would be smashing them off once they were a bit away from my house
Anyway I shouted and ran downstairs to grab them or something but they ran off
Police called
Car almost nicked
Just posting to note that it happened so anyone else nearby can maybe keep a closer eye on theirs
I'll make a few other attempts to secure it but anyone determined will get past anything I can think of
Now they know it's there I'm screwed aren't I?

Bloody hell that was a close one!! Gotta admit, If i owned an old escort (any old ford for that matter) I wouldnt feel safe leaving it outside overnight..
Buggers seem to know where they all are. It cant just be chance surely? all these fords that go missing and never turn up ? Id be putting a few locks on it, Wheel lock, Pedal lock, gearlock, probalby a wheel clamp, And maybe a realy obvious ground anchor and chain too, That said, None of that would stop a theif with a hiab.
Think the only ford theft deterant seems to be not owning one! If you go back thru these stolen pages, You'll see all sorts of scenarios in which they have been taken!

alarms normally get ignored, but if it's right outside your house, then maybe an alarm would be of benefit to you here?

Flip' what a close call...!!! People like that really do need a stern talking to! I wish these scum-bags would just find something else to occupy their time. Can they not take up gardening or something like that?!?!?!

my tracker alerts me by text if the car moves (and will theoretically get it back if it does get taken)
it's got a stoplock and a crooklok on the steering wheel
it will now have two wheel clamps on (just purchased this morning) and probably a chain to the nearest lamp post
I'm so lucky to have caught them in the act
Really don't want the sinking feeling of waking up and seeing an empty space - I'd much rather the adrenaline rush of (almost) catching them in the act

So sorry to here that , i think its especially worse when its not just a car but someones hobby. I would say get a tracker straight away , at least you would have good chace of getting it back and perhaps prosocution if the worse does happen . A wheel clamp would be good , maybe a engine cutout of some sort and a fuel pump switch . But if they want it ,nothing will stop a strong winch , crane or hiab. This happened to a mate back in the 90's . lived 10 minutes from the m40 , so he thought it was professionals . They came bak again and again and again , maybe 6 times leaving him with a lot of new wrecked garage doors . He had to sell it in the end as they would not give up .
You know of Savvi right ? , he sells trackers still i think ? I'm sorry i cant think of anything more positive other than the above or staying up all night witha pickaxe shaft , i know how it feels , I'm from Oxford and we lost 3 cars in the 90s to Blackbird leys joyriders .

If you steal a car you should be banned from driving forever and you should be tagged as such, most cases they don't get caught and us guys are left to pick up the pieces, I hate car theft its not funny

Get one of those "personal alarms" mounted to the wall, fishing wire to the rear corner of the car. That's a good "push away" alarm as it activates when the pin is pulled!

turn wheels fulllock one way remove steering wheel, jack car up and take off one axles wheels, fencing or a bar at front of drive so they cant push car out and also a light on front of house so comes on if someone walks on drive cos then they cant walkon drive to attach chains or straps for lifting

I know a lot of these extreme ideas would help but I do actually want to drive the car without too much hassle myself - it's on the road and used all year

Of the 'interior' methods of securing a car, the Disclok is by far and wide accredited with being the best deterrent. ^ WHS Both my cars have them fitted unless they're in the garage. Tip if buying 2nd hand - the earlier ones had a separate padlock so you fit the disk then put the lock on. The later ones have the lock built-in so you don't have to juggle the disk and lock when you're fitting it Recommended!

Sorry to saound like a bit of a pooper but I think that any garage specific details should be done via PM as there is now an address for a garage on here and it may be viewed by the wrong people...!!!
