Thanks, I've seen that one and I think it would be pretty good, but my dad is set on a 3dr. He's found quite a few about so we're having a look around.

I emailed the guy about that grey one asking about the electrical problems. Would it really not fun for very long if the alternator is nakered?

The MPi GTi is the one to go for, can't believe these little hot hatches were'nt more popular at the time! And now they are soooooooooooooo cheap, finding one will be a bit hard as most GTi are SPi, but they are still awesome little performers. Either that or get a lower spec on and transplant a larger K-series in........ 1.8 VVC from an MGF/ZS/ZR anyone

A car can only go in a production class that would would have been able to go in when it was built if you see what I mean. For example the older Metros would be allowed to move up to the 2l class as it came with a 1275 Turbo (around 1700 I think), but the largest engine that the Rover Metro was available in was a 1398cc, therefore it can only go in the 1400 class before becoming 'sports libre'. A lot of cars can get around this as there were large engined limited production runs of the model.

A very good friend of mine has done quite a bit of hillclimbing in the past. His experience was this: don't prepare your own car, buy someone else's ready prepared. Motorsport is the best way yet devised to piddle away money and since the value of a hillclimb prepared run-of-the-mill car such as a Metro is always going to be significantly less than the work done on it you're best off letting someone else do the piddling for you and buy their project. Just my two penn'orth. If you're in it for the spannering rather than the competition or have so much cash that it doesn't matter then go ahead
