I was thinking 90's Hyundai Lantra. Not convinced now, though. Pretty sure it's Korean, though.

they actually look quite well preserved, you'd think after a few years under there they'd be like colanders!

they actually look quite well preserved, you'd think after a few years under there they'd be like colanders! To oxidise (rust) things need oxygen! As long as they stay fully submerged, in theory they shouldn't corrode too much. That's why things like shipwrecks are still around hundreds of years later Quite a find that, be interesting to hear how they got there. Maybe it's as simple as the local TWOCers dumping ground?

I know that it is back on the road on it´s own wheels.
I posted about this Samba on here in the past. My link is hereThe owner received a well-deserved rat-look award when he got it up and running! Here it is, prior to being thrown into the lake in 1974 for 30-odd years: The rescue and build thread is here: link

I still have no idea why these cars are placed like this?!
Hi, probably to stabilise the bank as it is the outside curve on a maybe fast flowing river.
Yup was to stop bank erosion or an attempt to, I remember seeing similar pictures, possibly the same ones with a caption explaining them a while ago. Seems a weird thing to use, but i guess they were worthless scrap back then so cheaper then proper bank reinforcements and environmental impact wasn't thought about as much or at all in the 50's and 60's kinda sad really as i would love any one of those cars, interesting pictures though *need to find the one i saw of a Citroen SM abandoned in a levee in America somewhere.
