PRICE DROP 12.4.14!
Hello there,
Thanks for taking the time to look at my advert.
Sadly I'm having to sell "Saffy" my very original unmolested 1982 Mk1 Golf Series 2 (3 door) 1.1 C
Basic Info:-
> 1982 1.1C Petrol (II)
> 3 Door
> Manual choke model
> GSH (not full but dating back to late 90s)
> Aftermarket sunroof (very solid and water tight)
> Mot until June 2014 (no advisories)
> 114,000 miles (13784 on clock but been round once)
> 4 previous owners (of which I was one previously!)
> First two owners (female) were 10 years and 18 years respectively.
> Runs and drives well. Very tight feels like it is 5 years old, not 31!
> Recent service 10.2.2014 - full service, oil filter, oil, air filter, spark plugs, fan belt, new alternator,(£289.54)
> New battery last week - £70
> Numberplate worth a bob or two.
Condition
As I hope you will be able to see from the pictures this little car is an absolute gem.
She is in about as good condition as you will ever find. There is in total probably less than a 50p sized piece of rust throughout the entire vehicle. She is in 100% original condition save for the work I have done below which was carried out at great effort and expense in order to preserve the originality.
No leaks, no wet carpets or floors, no bits falling off and hardly a stone chip. I doubt anyone has ever sat on the rear seats!
As a friend of mine said the other day - "the arches look like they are new - I can still see the paint!". That should give you an idea.
No welding or painting is required at all and she is metal through and through.
Background to Ownership
I owned this car about 18 months ago. I bought it off a local lady who had owned it for many many years but no longer used it. The two front panels were rotten so I sourced original panels from a mint identical car in Spain and then shipped over to the UK. Sounds like a lot of effort but the VW heritage wings were absolute curse word and I sent them back!
A local classic restorer painted and refitted the new (original secondhand) wings. They match the body superbly and the extra expense was worth it to ensure the seam lines with the bonnet were spot on.
At the same time I also decided to have the sills and rear valance repainted (small area of surface rust under number plate - common problem) and I decided to have the spare wheel well repaired too. This was all done using original parts and matched paint codes. The cost of this work alone was £900+ but it was worth it to do it right.
On the proviso that I got first dibs if they ever wanted to sell it again, I sold it to my boss for his daughter to lean to drive on last May - first car! Sadly due to having no power steering she (the car) just sat on the drive as his daughter wants something more modern...
My boss informed me the car was not being used and was looking a bit forlorn. So, true to my word I bought her back off him for what he paid me. Truth be told I could not bear for all of the previous year's hard work to be wasted. As of last weekend Saffy and all her docs are back with me. Unfortunately I still have 5 other vehicles which means the neighbours are getting a bit anxious - so I have decided to find her a home that will do her justice. Hence she is now for sale.
"Bad bits"
Its hard to find anything wrong with the car at all, but in the interests of complete honesty I highlight the following:-
1. JVC cd player works fine, but is sadly a 'bit 2001'. Would look so much better with the original tape one.
2. There is a minor ding on the O/S door - see pics. An easy repair but it annoys me
3. There is slight wear on the driver's seat bolster (see pics)
4. The engine bay could do with a bloody good clean!
5. She has been sat for the best part of 6 months and so the first drive was a bit stuttering. She has now been tuned and runs sweet.
6. The black decal strips are not all absolutely secure (see pics) but a quick and simple fix which I intend to resolve this weekend.
That's it!
Price and the rest
The asking price is £3950 because I firmly believe this is one of the best shells in the country let alone the great condition of the interior.
I have owned 3 Mk1 Golfs and none of them came close to this even after restorations.
I consider the price to reflect not only a very nice classic car but also the investment value of such an original vehicle as this type of original car will only appreciate as others get modded / scrapped. I am completely torn about selling her but needs must!
In my own opinion it would be a shame for someone to just slam her. I hope that someone who has been searching for a superb example condition Mk1 (and whom can see the difference between this and others) spots this advert!
I have some pics (below) and 70 other hi res pics on the link below on my photobucket.
Please note these photos on the link have not been tweaked, they wer taken the morning after a hand wash the previous evening.
Saffy is getting detailed this weekend.

Swaps / PX / Offers etc
I am open to realistic offers. I would however stress the word "realistic"
I am not interested in swaps / px unless you have a really nice genuine e30 325i Sport (non cab) in which case I could be tempted as it means I could get rid of one other e30 project.
Please feel free to message me, check the pics out and better still call me on 07736326121. If she doesn't sell by May I will keep this one and sell my e30 instead.
Thanks again for looking,
Mech
