Hi All,
My wife was after a smaller car and we've tracked something suitable down now. So, my E36 touring that she's been using for the last year is now for sale. It was in daily use 'til this week and does have a fault (see below, 'bad bits') but has to go now due to lack of driveway space! Photos taken yesterday unless stated.
Spec as follows:
1996 E36 328i touring
Auto (5 speed with sports & snow modes) - effortless and smooth in operation
MOT 'til mid Jan 2015
Tax 'til end of June.
111k miles
Full leather
Dual zone climate control, works perfectly
4x electric windows
Electric mirrors
Remote central locking
Rear parking sensors
Auto dim rear view mirror
Trip computer
Boot liner, genuine BMW metal dog guard
Clear front indicators and side repeaters fitted, but I also have the original orange ones to go with the car if preferred.
Several sets of wheels:
1. 15in winter E46 alloys, currently on the car. Rear Yoko W-drive winter tyres brand new Oct '13, front Dunlop winter response fitted new in Jan '14 before discussions regarding changing car!
195/65/15 all round. Included at higher asking price - happy to keep these otherwise and sell the car cheaper. Pics below.
2. Original 10 spoke 16in wheels (x4), excellent condition wheels but tyres pretty worn out. Pic below.
3. Spare set of 10 spoke wheels (x5), not quite as good condition but two with brand new Toyo summer tyres, three with worn misc. tyres.
I bought it in Aug 2010. In my ownership I've replaced all brake discs, pads, fluid, changed oil, filter etc. every 6k miles, replaced air-con condenser and other AC parts and had it re-gassed. Recent jobs include replacing front wishbones, bushes & balljoints and towards the end of last year the water pump, coolant, thermostat housing and all belts. Passed MOT with no advisories in Jan and is in excellent condition underneath, I always have a look when it's on the ramp. No wheel arch rust as it common on these, tiny bubble on the boot lid as I recall. New spark plugs and throttle body intake pipe from BMW last month. No faults codes when scanned with INPA diagnostic software. All receipts for work done and some previous service history.
Bad points:
It started using a little coolant earlier this year, I found a few drips on some hoses, probably from changing the water pump last year so nipped up the clips but it still uses a little coolant. I've not been able to track the leak down and as it ran well at half way on the temp gauge and everything worked, just kept topping the coolant up when required (the on board computer warns you if the level is low) but it started using a bit more recently and is occasional slightly lumpy on startup for 30 seconds. As such it's for sale with a known fault, best case a minor coolant leak I can't find, worse case, head gasket on the way out?
I did try k-seal in it last week and that seems to have slowed the leak right down so it's using maybe 100 - 200ml / week in normal use. Not sure where the leak is to be honest, but I do know it's ran perfectly for the last three years or so, it's never been over-heated, thrashed etc. and drives normally now, so shouldn't be a major job. Amongst my spares I'm sure I have a new HG so will throw that in, along with spare filters, new brake pads etc.
The asking price reflects the time/effort to fix this I feel and it's a great car. I've been a member of this forum from the start (10 years!) and I'm sure plenty of members can vouch for the fact I'm an honest kind of chap so the fault is exactly as described.
Body has plenty of minor scratches and car park dings, and bonnet paint is a bit rough close up like something was spilt on it at some point. Couple of small bubbles under the paint on the tailgate. Few stone chips. Not terrible, and very presentable for the age of the car, but no show winner. I've never really worried where I park it so it's been everywhere. We were up in the Lake District a few weeks ago in it (35mpg on a nice motorway run and it'll overtake pretty much anything if you desire, 25mpg around town), and my wife uses it every day for work.
Also, only has one fob for remote locking, though does have spare key for manual unlocking.
Summer wheel pic (winter wheels are current fitted, this is an old pic):
Winter wheel pic (not this winter!):
Interior, taken yesterday, I have the third rear headrest in the garage so not shown here:
Boot, with liner fitted, without, and showing spare wheel well, triangle, jack etc. Note genuine BMW dog guard, working luggage cover and I also have the pull out mesh cover for use instead of the metal guard if preferred:
Engine bay:
More outside shots, including one of each wheel arch. Note I haven't polished it here, just washed it as it kept raining on me yesterday when taking these!
Happy to polish when the weather improves but it looks pretty good regardless.
Price: £800ono including winter wheels with almost new full set of tyres (see above) and various other spare parts, or £600ono without winter wheels.
I'm in Cheshire. Happy to deliver the car a reasonable distance if buyer leaves a deposit and covers return travel costs.
Drop me a PM if interested in more details, photos etc.
Cheers
