Idle passing chit chat at work today, and it turns out one of my colleagues is demolishing some old barns at the end of his garden... "got any rusty tat in them?" I ask? Anyways, it turns out theres a LHD Mk1 Golf GTi in there, its been vandalised by kids (glass smashed) but thats as much as I know at the moment, i'm off to see it after work... My question is this: The only LHD mk1's I haveheard of have been a few campaigns, or mega uber early GTi's. Did we get the early GTi in lhd flavour over here? I'll be taking my camera Mike

Yes - the early one's were LHD before they started making RHD ones for the UK so it could be one of those. I have seen a fair few later LHD ones on UK registrations over here though that might have been imported or bought overseas perhaps by people in the forces and brought back? In any case... pics please as soon as you have them! People who've driven the LHD ones tell me that the brakes are in a completely different league to the RHD cars due to the lack of cross linkage to the master cylinder. I don't find the brakes on my Mk1 too bad... I just carry an anchor for emergency stops...

LHD shells are good if you want to do something interesting engine wise, as it means theres more room for the Brake Servo
A mate was gonna do a 16vG60 into his LHD shell but he's sticking it in the Rallye instead.

I've just been chatting to a mate in Ireland who reckons his mate has just uncovered what is possibly the first ever RHD-converted Mk1... Pics as soon as I get them ;D
I also found out recently that you could buy a 5-Door Mk1 GTI in Germany, got pics somewhere ;D

Mike - so... are you having it then...or do I need to give it a home? Darren - Pics! Yes, you could get 5 door Mk1 GTI's (and GTD's) in Europe but not the UK for some reason, not sure why.

Make sure you start a thread in RRs. Looking forward to seeing it clean.
