kinda depends who you go to, main kwik fit and franchise garages will turn you over on anything the small independent ones will (usually) work a way out to pass it, Ive had cossie powered Cortinas, de catted Toyota monster trucks, etc.. Just be nice and honest, and offer to make the tea And don't get huffy when they point things out, be humble, like when a policeman pulls you over, humbleness gets you out of many scrapes

I was always under the impression a spare was testable but I'm wrong. Regarding seatbelts though, if the rear seats are removed and so are the belts then they can't be tested. I used to have a caged up road legal track car. No passenger seats at all with all belts and buckles removed, and it always passed.

Quick update! The car now has an MOT, the tester input it on the computer as having an engine from 1989 and Roberts your mums brother! To begin with they did try to tell me I'm wrong but after going away to check they agreed! So here's some old pics of the car in question, and thanks to the collective knowledge found on here.

No not that sort of thing, I mean things like different engines in cars, the independants will try to work a way out, unlike the big corporate ones, which will usually say nope. and with little things like headlight alignment, one l go to will sort it out if they can during the test, and will change duff bulbs without giving a fail for them which the big branch ones would never do, as they are on targets

Glad to hear you got it sorted in the end, as an aside, surely if you have the correct engine serial number/size/no. cylinders on the V5 this should be a lot less of a problem because it will be obvious that the engine is not original to the car and hence should be tested to different regulations? Also it is important to have the right information on the V5 for insurance and various other purposes... Just a thought is all :-)
