Thanks for the welcome, I know its not all retro but maybe a bit of insight could help some diyers out there, never no
I can never find what I'm looking for first you have to straighten the damage as much as you can: this takes time sometimes you cant get to the other side of the panel like this, Lots of pins welded from outside and damage pulled out, Then fillers (Takes time to get the hang of it - maybe 2-3 years of daily use for myself) Mask it up then primer then flatten/sand/prep the area befor paint It also take time and experience to learn how to fade-out/blow-in your colour and clearcoat The fresh paint stops in the middle of the roof rail foot -

Just to show even we aren't immune to the death wheel, How's about a public safety announcement ...
next time space is tight and you ''need'' to remove the disk guard from the grinder to get at a awkward spot, Or pick up a grinder to use just for a second! Be wise, Don't do it! But if you ''must'' This is what 5weeks out of work looks like PYep after almost ten years playing with angle grinders she bit me, and no I ddn't cry! after some surgery and 6-7weeks I now have about 90% movement back, So next time remember what this TIMMY of a fella! Done
Also I'm in Meath and thank you for the complements!
Mods If its too gruesome i'll remove

Great thread Rob, awesome work I think i'll speak for a lot on here when i say body/filler work seems pretty much a black art, i've been messing with small repairs for years, no matter how much time i spend sanding filler (even with a block) it still shows through the frigging paint , filled in the wiper hole on the tailgate of my Escort spent ages cutting a small disc of steel to size, another age butt welding it in (gradually to avoid distortion), grinded it flush, skim of filler, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill etc, prime, paint and the frigging circle is visable What Capri is that you are working on ? MK2/3 ?, 3.0S ? Hand injury is nasty , i'll put my hands up (pardon the pun) and say i don't use a guard, back in the 90's i had a guard work loose, stop the disc dead, disc shattered, grinder jumped out my hands, was working outside and heard bits of shattered disc landing on the roof of the car 30 seconds later, was very lucky, if a bit had went into my face i'd have been dead so now don't trust guards (though i wouldn't recommend removing them), i use a face mask, heavy gloves, quality discs and change them when they start to frey.

That's some very decent painting and fabrication work.
Also, have you really painted those cars that close to the wall?

I agree 100%, I remember not wanting to go to work because I thought I couldn't do it! and I've worked with other panel beaters who are quite rough, My aim is to make it look like it never happened, like I never touched it,
when it comes too Fillers, spend the time straightening out the panel as much as possible(not as simple as it sounds) And good quality 2K HS high build primer, You'd be surprised 3-4 heavy coats and it'll fill up small fingertip sized damage and stops your sinkage/soakage witch is usually why fillers shows up, preparation is 80% of the job, its what you do before the paint that makes it look good. Painting is trial and error, keep trying
The capri is a mk3, and there's a 3L Essex sitting behind it waiting. She was fairly rusty but all the really nasty stuff is done so well see how it goes

It is Anchor Blue in the first, Owner wanted it redone but we couldn't get a actual paint code that looked anywhere near it- Fords data only goes back to 1980, which makes codes hard to find/get its usually just a name. So It was redone in FORD TRUE BLUE, Its almost the same as the blue/purple in the background of the Ford badge/logo

More pics a lot of new metal in this pic + floor stiffener Some epic bodgery chop! chop! all the shi*e will be cut out and replaced, Opposite side already done just needs some tidying! Sill on and door lined up, this side almost done, Yellow lines are where has been replaced it this picture,
And here is something that interested myself, The difference between v6 and 4cyl Capri's well one of them, Shiny plate extends the double skin on the chassis leg, then to the right of the shock tower a plate joins the bumper reinforcement to the shock tower/leg and also has the extra anti crush tube for the 3bolt cross member which sits in the leg, Then the bottom few inches of the tower is doubled on the inside to reinforce and tie it together better, then a brace plate to the left of the tower stiffens the chassis leg on the outside until it turns down under the footwell, there are also triangular pieces in the top corners of the engine bay, walking plates for the shock towers and stiffeners on the shock top in the bay. That's how the Capri sits now, has been hard to get time at it and she's on hold for a short while atm.
Meanwhile across town an old Asian lady came in for some ''Rejuvenation'' There's also a driprail spot welded and sealed on witch I failed to photograph, its barely visible below Gave it a buff and general tidy up
