Hi All, I thought it would be good to start a thread for one of my Retro Rides. I'll try to keep the chatter to picture ratio right too first.. Here is a mobile pic of my car when i went to collect her :- And here she is after ~4 months of spare time in the driveway work. Observant perople will note the passenger seat is still missing I have a mass of pictures of what was done in that relatively short space of time and it was also the first time i have restored a car so i am sure some of you may have views on some of what was done.. I have learn't from the experience and have two more cars in the process now Mileage before she hit the road in May :- finally a picture at Billing 2013 I have 100's of pictures taken during the fairly brief resto so when i get time i'll break it up into separate posts for different bits of work done Cheers Bill

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciated Custard, as she is called, is my current daily driver . Is close on 40000 miles on the clock now and still going strong. Had the head gasket go recently so the engine is less original than it was. As is the case with old cars there is always a mounting "to do" list, of which the recent extreme weather has helped to exacerbate .. still the weather has kept the need for salt all over the roads I'll put up a thread each for Rhubarb and Mustard the other two midlife madness resto jobs i took on when i get the time as well as add more of Custards path to the road Bill

I remember this from Billing I was on the VVOC stand next door, sadly not displaying either of our cars last year. Really looked good sat in the sun, are you attending this year?

Very nice! Always had a hankering for a Chevette hatch but they're pretty rare beasties these days. I had a car called Custard last year, but mine was an Oldsmobile - name didn't really suit it Looking forward to seeing Rhubarb and Mustard as well.

Very nice Chevette you have there. I've never actually seen one on a B plate before so this must be a very rare old thing indeed.
Good luck with it.

Thanks for the comments yep hoping to be at Billing this year. the original plan was to bring two up but I haven't had the time to work on either of the other 2 projects as much as i would of liked to. Plus i keep finding more that needs doing or re-doing (gotta hate MOT bodges). So Custard should at least be there after about 8000 miles of return to the road.. so maybe not quite as shiny / clean looking Bill

Some more pictures.. The Underbonnet as it was when it first arrived.. Spot the original 40/45W tungsten bulbs / candles some visible rust under the battery bottle (as usual) , the usual grubby but no sign of evil rot .. always good to start with.. One such Candle. water in the headlights.. this is very common and the only solution i foudn was to remove the rubber seal (see above pic) from the headlight so the moisture could get out. it works well and only in severe rain does the headlight get damp at all now and it soon dries again. the seal seems to keep it damp, even if you dry out the headlight before re-fitting it Bumper isn't bent but as can be seen is somewhat pitted. LESSON NO. 1 - do NOT do this ! - water was getting into the car via the vent grill (turned out to be the battery tray, common problem) so i knaively used duct tape to seal up the grill for now so i coudl dry the car out. Which is fine.. until you want to remove it.. hence don't use duct tape for this a car cover needed to be ordered as this was going to be an entirely outdoor/in the driveway project a little bit of G3 rubbing on a small patch reveals the paint is quite badly faded. now to dry out that floor.. I also thought this was all i would need to do.. later it became obvious the water had spread somewhat further. the rubber hammer and the cracked tar sound deadening material is due to having to pop the floor back out again. seems somebody had tried to jack it up under the floor. doh! Did i say the battery tray leaked... oh yes.. under some "MOT" sealant and filler lies the real picture below to be continued...
