Thought I'd just check in for a long overdue update, not really the update I was hoping for. RIP George, your tales have been keeping me entertained and brightening up my day for ages and I'm deeply saddened to hear of your passing.

I'm sure many of us miss georgeb from these parts, I know I do. Just wanted to remind anyone who hasn't read it that his unique style of prose can still be found here on amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Letter-Manila-George-Bryden-ebook/dp/B077WJ7GR9I'm about halfway through at this point and obviously while bittersweet it is an enjoyable read, definitely recommended.

I have been thinking about him a bit recently. I never got around to reading his book, despite buying it. I need to get on it. He came to mind again this week when a chap I follow on youtube moved to the Philippines. George had a good life there and had a way with words that gave a great and funny insight into life on the other side of the world.

I got in so much trouble for referring to the kids as bottle openers! Still miss him.

I'm reading his book and have just got to the part of his life where I stumbled across him on this forum. The P38 purchase!
Bittersweet moment knowing he has gone, and there will be no more stories. RIP George.
On a sub note, does anyone know how Madam and the girls are doing now?

There was someone on here who had contact with Madam, but I cannot for the life of me remember who it was. I'm re-reading this thread from the beginning now, only wish I had discovered it before the youtube videos were taken down

Every time I read a news report of something happening in Manilla or the greater Philippines I can't help wondering how George would have reported on it. Ride free George.

Finally finished the book and re-read this thread during a bit of downtime. Georges adventures in Manila have fascinated me and as I often do, I did a spot of Google Street View surfing, and what did I spy... maps.app.goo.gl/16x3GF645287MXQy5Bittersweet once again, but did make me smile. RIP George.

I miss old George and his sense of humour. Some people are taken from us far too early. Often wonder how the family are doing without him.

That's categorically not George...
There's a green beetle that hasn't appeared to move, and a big house that got knocked down where the fenced off bit is. And a Corolla (?) has appeared in the fenced off bit between 2018 & '19

Don't forget he moved house a number of times during the course of this thread and his book.
