Oh man…… that’s really not the news we were looking for…….
RIP George, going to miss your beautifully written stories about the craziness of life in general and Manila in particular.
The world is poorer for your passing.
My condolences and best wishes to the ladies….

Aww F*** I had feared this but I'm genuinely shocked & saddened at his passing. I felt (like others on here) that he was a true friend even though we had never met. I will miss him and his witty posts. Rest in peace George, and condolences to Madam & the girls, the world is a poorer place without you.

Really sad news, can only echo what everyone else has said, his stories on the trials and tribulations of life in and around Manila were informative and entertaining in equal measure, will have a beer for him this evening
Rest in peace

I, like a few people feared this may have happened as he'd been quiet for an unusually long time.
R.I.P George, I will miss your witty stories and incredible tales.
My deepest condolences to Madam & the Girls.

It's strange to feel how deeply I'm touched by this news of the loss of a friend I've never met. George was an avid supporter of my Granada thread and a true story teller. Stories of a world I can hardly imagine and stories of a car much loved. I hope his end was painless and that he's with his four legged friends of the past now.
Rest in peace George...

Such a sad post to read. As has already been said I didn't know George and was never going to meet him but counted him as a friend as his writings where so personal and informative. R.I.P. George and condolences to his family.

I’d been waiting patiently for George to return, as I’d finally downloaded his e-book and wanted to congratulate him on a very entertaining read. Just like this thread, it was a wonderful tongue-in-cheek narrative of life in the Philippines and the “logic” of Madam and the bottle openers. Now I cannot congratulate him, but like so many have the memories of his threads, plus the support he showed others on their threads. Thanks to gucci88 for making contact and bringing us up to date… farewell George, one less character on RR.

Oh my. That's terrible. I can't imagine how Madam and the girls must feel. George is one of those people who'll be truly missed by so many people. I never even met him but considered him to be a good friend. Rest in peace George. You won't be forgotten. I'll raise a glass in your memory tonight. gucci88 thank you so much for finding out and letting us know. If you do go to the wake please pass on our condolences and best wishes. James

Just like this thread, it was a wonderful tongue-in-cheek narrative of life in the Philippines and the “logic” of Madam and the bottle openers. You've just reminded me I bought that book back in 2018 and it's on her kindle thingy that she doesn't use anymore and is probably is as flat as a flat thing So I'm going to stick it on charge, pour a beer and hopefully have chuckle or two in memory - I don't think georgeb would appreciate my current sombre mood. Now I cannot congratulate him, but like so many have the memories of his threads, plus the support he showed others on their threads. Thanks to gucci88 for making contact and bringing us up to date… farewell George, one less character on RR. Well said - can always leave a review on Amazon for the book - he's probably chuckle that he (like many great authors) would only be appreciated after they pass Letter from Manila - clickyI think we will have to keep a P38 sized space on the BNMAC stand for future events so we can remember his frequent attendances to RR events

As so many have said, it is strange how affected we are by the passing of a man that we never met in person. The internet can often be an ugly place full of hatred and bile - I always found RR to be a little oasis in the middle of this turbulence and I found that George was one of those characters that made it so. George's stories about life in a far flung part of the world were amusing and entertaining but, they also revealed something of his nature - an amiable man that was more than happy to help those around him - even with many of his wittily described trials and tribulations he never seemed to lose patience... a true gentleman. Like most here I never met George but, I believe you can tell a lot about a man from the way he treats those around him - especially the way he treats animals and, on that score I don't think that George could be beat. I like to think that had I ever got the chance to meet George we could have sat down and whiled away a few pleasant hours over a pint or two. Sadly not to be now. My heart goes out to his missus and the girls, and to all that knew him. There's some corner of a foreign field that is forever England...
In honour of George I am going to hunt down some San Miguel and raise a glass or two for him
Rest easy George.
