Good to see you are back safe and now fully legal for a while longer. Shame it turned out to be an unexciting place. But I suppose excitement wan't the point of the exercise. Speaking of the cold... And remembering that I live in the warmth of sunny Kent where snow means the very end of civilisation... I stood on our pond today. The ice is so thick it supported my fairly significant weight. Either that or I'm the second coming of our Lord and Saviour and I can now walk in water. And if that''s the case we're all in the poo so let's hope it's just physics.

Uneventful but home. Sounds a decent outcome in the greater scheme of things. Yep, got done what was needed Philippine exit and entry stamps. Now the 36 months starts over again. I'm not surprised at 6.9%. Trying to find some in the UK so I can relate to your experience, then SWMBO can hit me Can't say I blame her, it can make a bit of a mess. Let me know if you do find some. We can do a compare and contrast price-wise. Good to see you are back safe and now fully legal for a while longer. Shame it turned out to be an unexciting place. Had the finances been in a better state, I could have gone to see some mates in KL, had a weekend of debauchery in Bangkok or even gone to Hong Kong and set fire to HSBC there. However we are, as they say, where we are, and that's back home! Should you discover that the thickness of the ice was not the reason, any chance you could turn your new-found omnipresence towards Goodridge and ask them to respond to my bloody e-mail please?

Have faith my child! Sorry, couldn't resist. All this talk of weather coupled with just being rained on taking Pup1 for his morning "Pee Up Every Post" tour, my thoughts turned to Walang Pasok. So on returning, we checked out the I'm Ready section of the well known GMA news site. I was greeted by this. You will note the happy sun. It is dark outside. it is also heavy cloud. And what happens at 6am? It would appear we have an amorphous blob for an hour which then gives way to a smaller sun? What astronomical changes are we going through here? It's also the first time I've ever seen a forecast that tells me it will feel warmer than it actually is. I can assure them it doesn't! Anyway, no Walang Pasok so two surly teenagers duly turfed out of the Hello Kitty Suite.

Been as cold as a frozen frog's ring hole here in New Zealand this week too and it is our Summer. There was a foot of fresh powder snow within three hours drive of here on Sunday.

Well, to give you an idea of how cold it's been in West Yorkshire, at the moment I'm being forced to get the b*stard train to work due to parking issues, and on my arrival at Headingley station yesterday I couldn't get my ticket out of the machine because the plastic flap had frozen shut!
Just spent a good hour catching up, hilarious as always George!

Sounds quite tropical George, -28 C on our haul route last week. Even the diesel wanted to freeze. Yesterday was up to freezing and some rain made for a bit of ice. Enjoying the yarns as always, opened YouTube the other day an guess who was in suggested video? Yep Manila's most famous Brit

Hi George, long time reader, first time poster (in this thread) I was mooching around YouTube and found this old bit of American WWII propaganda, moving locos and wagons to a very war damaged Manilla, from about 15mins in. Wonder how much of that stock is still there?

Just spent a good hour catching up, hilarious as always George! Ah well, if you will live in Yokshire... Glad you're enjoying. Don't want it that cold again! Sounds quite tropical George, -28 C on our haul route last week. Even the diesel wanted to freeze. Yesterday was up to freezing and some rain made for a bit of ice. Enjoying the yarns as always, opened YouTube the other day an guess who was in suggested video? Yep Manila's most famous Brit Bloody hell, I got a touch of frostbite just reading that! YouTube must be running short of stuff, all I can say! Hi George, long time reader, first time poster (in this thread) I was mooching around YouTube and found this old bit of American WWII propaganda, moving locos and wagons to a very war damaged Manilla, from about 15mins in. Wonder how much of that stock is still there? Thanks for that, interesting watching. I reckon if you poke about you'd find some of those old chassis still around, there's some really old stuff rotting in corners of their "Maintenance" depot. Not used for years though, PNR gave up hauling freight eons ago. Apparently, after Warsaw, Manila suffered the most (conventionally delivered) damage of the war. Don't know what Stalingrad would have to say about that, but it was certainly a mess and ironically, most of it done during the final US liberation. Shame not much thought was given to the reconstruction. Anyway, in other news... Not content with numerous Walang Pasoks for bad weather when it turns out fine, or closing four days for non-existent water shortages, they've found another reason for a day off... "Praised be Jesus and Mary, another excuse for a pi55 up!" I'm also getting a tad jaded about Goodridge. I mailed them on Monday to explain that not a single solitary hose they sent was actually meant for my vehicle and again yesterday, just to give 'em a nudge. Nothing, nada, zip, silence. Not even a "We've received your mail and promise to do nothing about it" response. It's not like I can go and knock on their door for an exchange. Maybe that's the problem. Out of sight, out of mind. Needless to say I'm not a happy boy! Not only do I now have an inoperable motor (I've drained the fluid), I'll start to accrue fines in five days for not doing the annual registration in time. And I'm not sure if I'd posted this before, but here's a real anomaly for a country where new is cool. A doctor pal of mine, who does very nicely, thank you, still proudly runs around in this occasionally... His first car. And with the owner... Minter than a mint thing. His daily is an exceptionally tidy 15 year old BMW 3 Series as well. He does have a new Mazda, but says he doesn't like it very much. Most unusual!

Lovely car the doctor has.
It is interesting to see the Principal has Beater as part of one of her titles.
Amazing how that sort of culture feeds on itself.
Eventually people cannot distinguish between earned and given rights.

On another note the letter arrived. We had to go to the post office in downtown Wareham to sign for it. Much nosyness was exhibited so I didn't open it in the shop so the rumour mill will now be running at full blast. I shall put the stickers on the cars as soon as the Volcano Lair is warm enough to enter. Thanks! Furthermore Red Horse is £1.98 per 330ml so I shan't be ordering a case but see if they can let me have a few bottles. What I didn't know is that San Miguel was originally a Phillipines company and the Spanish end was a licencee. Small world. Cheers (Red Horse) Ian

I thought you weren't allowed to dress up warm where you are? Ever. The tribal elders have ordered that I be shunned until two moons have passed. Hovering around zero today. At home so boxers, t shirt and barefoot, even when going to the garage. Got to keep the foot leather thick and calloused *n

Cheers (Red Horse) Ian I just hope they don't deliver, "...in God's perfect time" which is when some of the school projects are due for completion! Glad they arrived safe and sound. I'll make sure the guy who had them done for me knows. I think that's the first ever success with outgoing mail, so a milestone right there. IIRC, a 330ml Red Horse is about 20-30pee here. I know San Mig is 50. I'll check later when I go out for supplies. I thought you weren't allowed to dress up warm where you are? Ever. Got to keep the foot leather thick and calloused *n Only two moons? You got off lightly there, brother. Anyway, Goodridge are finally responding to mails, just not very positively at this point. They wanted me to send them the old hoses so they could copy them! I pointed out that they advertised the kit as fitting a 1995-01 Range Rover so to my mind they should just send the correct kit, they started on about how they couldn't know what the specification was for Philippine Range Rovers. I responded that it is European spec (which they specifically state the kit will fit) and originally supplied to Land Rover France, arriving here as a personal import. Silence. So with the '38 well and truly off the road, this is how we're getting around at the moment... Oh and while I remember, Xīnnián kuàilè to you all. Apparently and much to my Girls' delight, it's the year of the Hot Chicken or somesuch. They are expecting much feasting!

Eventually people cannot distinguish between earned and given rights. Yes, it's a nice one, that's for sure. I noticed yesterday when I was cutting around that all the other schools in the area seemed to be open as normal. So it looks like it was only theirs that felt the need for a day off. Idle sods! It's the double standards that gets me. They make a huge fuss over late or non-attendance (which I have no argument with) but yet are happy to shut at the drop of a hat for the most obscure and spurious reasons, with little or no notice.

And if you thought this was scary... Have a boatload! Today sees Barangay 701 - that's where we live - having their Santo Niño festival. Perhaps more sensibly than people carrying around their dolls all day (it does interfere with the Red Horse consumption) they built this boat, all steel, a couple of years ago and drag them all around together. I may just pop to the no-doors, sticky-floors bar later to have a look-see. And this was outside Adriatico on Friday... I don't know if it was the shiny stainless, the vision limiting sticker, the green spotlights or the four mirrors, but it was getting loads of admiring glances.

Interesting and entertaining as ever George. On the Goodridge saga - I remember having precisely this issue with them nearly 30 years ago when I built my Vitesse. Bought a set of 4 hoses at vast expense (for me, at the time) and not one was remotely the right length. This was pre-email (yep!) so I rang them.... many times. Without satisfaction - the concept that I could have a kit with the right number on the box with the wrong length hoses in it seemed to be more than they could grasp. I considered visiting their premises (they are only about 40 miles away in Exeter), but then I realised that they had also supplied the re-useable type (600 series, technically illegal for road vehicles), which meant I was able to swap the ends around and shorten hoses as needed to make a working set. No MoT man has ever called me out on the end fittings and I've been able to renew the braided hose itself whenever I started to feel bad about its age. So for me, it turned out ok in the end. I doubt you are fortunate enough to have been supplied re-usable fitting though? So I can only offer the small (very small) consolation that you are definitely not alone! www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/s/goodridge/goodridge-600-series-brake-clutch-hose-fittings (damn they are expensive!) So I can only offer the small (very small) consolation that you are definitely not alone! Nick It's a right royal pain in the bum is what it is. No, these aren't re-usable fittings and even if they were, I'd still have two hoses that are too short to be any use. The fittings are all correct in terms of threads, banjos, etc, just all on the wrong length hoses. Now sent a mail with a) the schematic from the Workshop Manual showing the identical hose layout to mine, along with a further detailed description of the issue (they've already had pictures but say these are insufficient) and b) the Build Certificate to prove its Euro spec and exported to LR France, not some one-off special for the Philippines, which is what they want to claim. I don't know if they are being deliberately obtuse or whether I've just got someone not sure of his job, but the issue is now that until I can get them to acknowledge the problem in the first place, we can't move forward and if we do, I've another 2 weeks wait as they post everything. This has now become a complete job stopper and, unlike you, they are just shy of 7,000 miles away from me! Let's see how far the latest mail gets me.
