I would imagine it's been the case at more than one theme park where someone has wanted their remains sprinkled around their favourite 'Magical place to visit'. You could be right, although whilst I can think of several places they could scatter me, Alton Towers isn’t one of them!  Maybe one of the ashtrays at Adriatico? Or that death is seen as just a minor inconvenience, and shouldn't prevent the departed's participation in a family outing? True and as Dorset_Clive succinctly points out, if we can have a dead presidential candidate, why not? I imagine taking the loved one to the water park would probably... cement the memory of them forever in time... How’s the new mead coming along?  Following that line of thinking, would it be ok to include the recently deceased as a member of the party? There doesn't seem a rule excluding it... They should perhaps charge half price or something. To be fair, they’d be barred from many of the rides anyway, due to not being tall enough! This time in a diesel multiple unit rather than a loco, probably one of the 2009 Rotem-built sets, as they are the only ones they have that still work. They look like this... The policy originated when there was an incident wherein a guest brought an urn. Since we do not allow breakable items inside the park, the Security personnel assisted them at (Guest Relations) GR.
At GR, we asked the guest to leave it with us for sanitary/hygienic reasons plus we don't want other guests to feel uncomfortable. The bereaved guest does not want to leave the urn at the GR office thus we eventually gave a refund.

Mystery solved, but it's obviously deeper than first imagined and it looks like there's a new global trend of people wanting to smuggle their ex-relatives into amusement parks. Meantime, this is what I went to bed to last night.
As the storm season approaches, Ma Nature was having a bit of a practice.
I'll stick some stuff up from the day later.

Ma nature is awesome - and our efforts (H Bombs aside) are pretty puny. We complain about "stuff" but we must be due for some mighty natural disasters over the next few years.....

Sooo, PNR. Well, the morning went as planned. Arrrived at Tutuban at 5am, met up with the PNR Ops guy who was accompanying us, rounded up our guests and off we set. Three of the party were old Asia hands so weren't particularly surprised, but one was a newbie and I could hear him muttering, "My God" over and over as we progressed. Was it the track? Was it the crossings? Was it the trolleys, people, goats, chickens, ducks, fires? Dunno what his problem was. Anyway, some in-cab videos for your delight and delectation. Got another four uploading now. |

Hokey dokey, another four here of varying lengths. There's no commentary on these as I was now stood right behind the driver and he has enough distractions as you can see, without me whispering sweet nothings in his ear! But I reckon you'll have the hang of things by now. So quite a long (16 hours) but productive day all in all. The signalling guys now know what they've got to work with and later in the afternoon they gave us a presentation on some quite impressive technology. I've a feeling we'll be doing more of these trips as we move towards the tender process and more folks want a look. Whenever that may be. I did ask our visitors if they'd given any thought to control of the 5+km of on-street operation where the road we run along has 3 major crossings and also has a mega five-road junction at one end to negotiate as well. They said they'd hoped I'd forgotten that bit! If I think on, I'll do a video of a single run up Recto Ave in the car on Sunday, so you can be reminded where we'll be running on the road. The last ones were a bit disjointed, and a long time ago! Anyway, today is downtime and this morning I'm shooing my little Bottle Openers over to Tondo for a couple of days to give Madam a hand at the, now very busy, water station, so me 'n' Pup 1 will be kicking back down Adriatico with a cold one (or two) later. As the storm season approaches, Ma Nature was having a bit of a practice. I'll stick some stuff up from the day later. Pratchett again The storm was really giving it everything it had. This was its big chance. It had spent years hanging around the provinces, putting in some useful work as a squall, building up experience, making contacts, occasionally leaping out on unsuspecting shepherds or blasting quite small oak trees. Now an opening in the weather had given it an opportunity to strut its hour, and it was building up its role in the hope of being spotted by one of the big climates.
It was a good storm. There was quite effective projection and passion there, and critics agreed that if it would only learn to control its thunder it would be, in years to come, a storm to watch. |

Love the little vision slit in front of the driver - is that so he can reach out to wipe the mess off his screen? But basically what we all learnt is that a PNR train can only run if it has a fecking great horn! |

Ah, Wyrd Sisters, if I remember? Strange thing about it was exactly as written above. There was no thunder at all and that's what made it interesting. That spectacular light show, carried out in total silence. So, what with Duterte being sworn in on June 30 and the Typhoon season just around the corner, it could be a fun July in the Philippines! Actually, my biggest concern isn't the crossings, or the rocks, or even the trolleys/goats/ducks/chickens, it's the halfwits trying to jump the freight wagons when we slow for stations or on the street running section to hitch a free ride. I just know it's going to be a problem that we'll need to resolve, or people will die. And talking of death and Duterte, at a recent press conference he said, “Just because you are a journalist you are not exempted from assassination if you’re a son of a curse word.” Okay in itself I suppose. I've said before that the standards of reportage here often border on the criminal. But then it struck me I hadn't seen a pal of mine down Adriatico for six or seven days and as he's a well known retired journo, who didn't support Du30 (as the t-shirts say) I was getting a little worried, daily scanning Manila Bay with the binoculars for any familiar faces bobbing about. Anyway he pitched up yesterday. Claimed he’d been in hospital for six days with some sort of trouble “down there”. But is he telling the truth, or covering up something more sinister? His claimed ailment is guaranteed to avert further questioning and I noticed he had bruises on his arms. But were they from the drips and needles in hospital, or marks of the restraints down the cellar? He seemed unusually quiet... I think I’ll write to my mate at 'Letter from Manila' and see if they’ll investigate. |
