For me it's got to be something a generation or two newer than your suggestions, boxy and square. Is that a Leopard?

This is pretty much spot on for me But so are these.. And this is just one of my favourite cars ever.. The more modern cars still suit the style, but i think it works better on the 60's/70's cars.

I want the modifications to be what makes the car stand out...so starting with an obviously stand-out car doesn't count! That's why I suggest something boxy and bland - the earlier J-Stuff appeals to me in stock form anyway, all the fussy detailing and American influenced styling...

It's got to be the Charmant. Offering up dated mechanicals (RWD, a 60s-derived engine in the 1.3) and covering the interior with thick carpets, then sticking a Daihatsu badge on the back and saying "LUXURY CAR" didn't really give it the best start in life. Pretty much obsolete on release, but dragged out all the way until 1987, most of the buyers were probably old Japanese men who fancied a bit of luxury and saw FWD as a silly fad, but didn't have the room/money for a Gloria or Cresta. As a result, probably has one of the lowest survival rates of any Japanese car going, unlike a lot of other old Japanese cars where they have their own little scene and examples appear on Yahoo Auctions quite often, the Charmant totally faded into obscurity. In a place like Japan, the only people who would keep spending money to keep them alive are the few die-hards who saw the appeal. However, this happened: And suddenly the potential is realised! Lot of space for wide wheels, suspension parts shared with the popular KE70 Corolla, lashings of chrome everywhere, how can it fail? Shame it came too late and there's barely any left.....

The Silvia is too stylised to start with IMO. It wouldn't exactly be ignored before any mods would it?

I don't see how you can include the GC10, while you're excluding the Celica's etc. The first GT-R was a sedan (the PGC10), I would think thereby discounting that as a look option being not many people could afford the 6cylinder versions, especially the S20 powered GT-R, if you went 4 cylinder only in that look, (shorter nose) then it would be more suitable, of course, the van/estate/wagon being inclusive in that as well.
Mr. B, that's a VC210 by the looks, Skyline Van. Rarer than a rare thing with rare things attached, as are most the van versions (C10 and C110 inclusive).
Shouldn't be too hard to find the S10 Silvia you're talking about either, the majority of pictures will be American S10 200SXs, with hideously oversized bumpers.
The C130 Laurel is definately a contender, if not the winner for me. The KGC130 would be my pick. Under-rated, basically a Skyline but more luxurious.

Actually come to think of it, the KE70 Corolla deserves some sort of flexibility award. They just work in so many ways! Change the wheels and drop the suspension: Racing mode: Rally mode:
