It must be a record...to go to a show, get back, upload the pics AND do a short piece before lunchtime. The reasons are twofold. Firstly it all took place five minutes drive from home, and secondly I was at a 40th birthday party last night and feel utterly dreadful. Ah well, here goes... Arrived at Hopwood Services at about 10:45, expecting maybe 50 cars. Was most surprised to see this..... Whoa....Longbridge produce everywhere. Here's some of the best ones. Stunning 1750 Allegro, truly magnificent (if you'd have told me 20 years ago I'd be using words like 'magnificent' when referring to one of these, you'd have been locked up) Sebring-kitted BGT Nice pair of modified Landcrabs. There's something about a Clubman with two-up-two-downs... HOW rare? Prototype Austin Ant, from 1968 ;D Lovely old pair of Wolseleys...a 6/110 and a 1500. From there I sprinted on up ahead of the convoy to Cofton Park, bumped into a few old friends from a Mini club I used to be a member of (which was nice), and carried on snapping, getting ever more dehydrated and feeling generally Uncle Dick. Another mint All-Aggro. This A40 was stunning. The more I see them, the more I want one, and this was just about as perfect as you'll find. This one's more like the one I'll invariably end up with though, proper original Rat-Look Really early cable-change 1500 Maxi. At this point it was getting unbearably hot, and with a head that felt increasingly like Giant Haystacks had been sitting on it, and a mouth as dry as Julie Andrews' gusset ....I headed home. Today, at Cofton Park. To be honest, it still fills me with sadness to see the place as it is now. I took one shot across the park (I think it's in the Photobucket album somewhere) as I was walking in where people were enjoying themselves as they have for generations, only this time in the background is a barren wasteland where there used to be a factory. I didn't post it up here as this ain't the place for pontificating about the parlous state of the British Manufacturing Industry, I figured I'd let the cars speak for themselves. Suffice to say that as i was walking back to the car, a battered Escort Van came up Groveley Lane, speakers on the roof blasting out Pomp And Circumstance, liberally plastered in BNP stickers. Left a sour taste in the mouth......

Yeah, according to my local rag the Rover Community Action Trust are set to run the Pride Of Longbridge Rally every year at around the the time of the anniversary of MG Rover's demise. ;D
