I am buying a car this weekend. It is a 1.1 MK3 1992 Fiesta, it is MOT'ed and Taxed, worth about £700 max and it is about 60 miles away. I am 20, have no no-claims bonus and have held my license for 2 years. What temporary insurance companies do you guys know of who would insure an under 25 like me, a car worth less than a grand and can start the temporary 1 day policy immediately?
Thanks, Kit.

for 60 miles blag someone you know with a traders policy or trade plates, or even someone who is over 25 and has fully comp insurance(depends on policy and if the car your buying is insured, but if its taxed it should be) and get them to drive it back for you. at 20 its going to be nothing but hard work, ive been there and tried in the past!

I use Swindon and go through their little comparison thing. Ends up around the £35-40 mark for 24 hours. Not worth taking that chance IMO.

Also, trade plates are tax ONLY. Nothing more. I found this out the hard way when my car was impounded for no tax, mot or insurance (was not using trade plates for trade purposes)

Www.insuredaily.co.uk. £40 for 24 hours on impreza turbo for me but reduces the more days you have, just ran I dummy quote for your car and it came back at £46.77 using your age ect. Hope this helps

I use www.tempcover.comUsed it loads of times, if it needs to be worth over £1000, just say it is, why couldn't it be? :S

I know what you are saying, but if it's a curse word old £400 fiesta then they aren't going to be convinced are they? I was thinking of getting the seller to given me a signed false receipt for the car with a fictitious sale cost of £1000 to cove my .

I think I used Aviva last time. I don't recall there being a minimum value on the car.
I can't imagine the seller wanting to give you a receipt for a grand when he didn't receive a grand.

Tempcover is the one I used when getting my pulsar gtir , which was a mare as its an import for a start ,no others would cover me for that reason alone , I ended up paying £43 for three days cover which IMHO is great value on a high risk car

Would it be possible to use the two week 'cooling off' period on an annual policy to cancel after a day or two for minimal cost? You may need the capital for a year's insurance up front though.

I've used RAC before - you can even add breakdown cover for another couple of quid. I just went through the process with a random 1990 Fiesta (used ebay to find a car for the reg) and got a quote for under £20 - £22.something if I wanted breakdown too. www.rac.co.uk/insurance/day-insurance/Edit: Just noticed my age might have made it quite different. I changed my birth day to Jan 1989 and the quote was £27.11 without breakdown.

I would do that, they'd take a bit of something off the initial deposit, I paid £28 deposit on my RS turbo, I then had to cancel to go onto a modern classic policy for my nova, they took 4 days pro rata cover off me and I ended up with £15 return off the £28

Following the other route, I needed to insure my Pajero the day I bought it to drive it home. Couldn't use tempcover as it's an import and wasn't covered. Took out a standard policy and cancelled it a few days later.
Total cost, about £12! Lol

I paid £130 using Shipley.com to get my escort from Milton Keynes to Manchester and didn't even need to go near it, hassle free, guy delivered it before dinner too. Maybe another option to consider?
