Bit new for this site I know, but do any of you know anything about T4's? There was one in PPC last year running over 300bhp IIRC so seem to be tweakable. Not many around but cheap enough!

Underrated engines, like a lot of Swedish engines. Do a quick search on YouTube to see what's out there

I believe the handling can be a tad unruly. The S/V40 chassis isn't the most sophisticated in the world with 122BHP to deal with. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing depends on your point of view. My Saab is similarly unruly and I think it's a hoot.

Not too fussed about the handling, got a little fast road Puma if I want to go around corners silly fast I was tempted by a Saab, but for me it'd have to be a 2000 9-3 Aero three door, but there's hardly any around!

It cant be that bad a chassis, the facelift iirc got a longer wheelbase to improve its stability, same platform as a carisma.

It runs on a Lancer based platform.

don't know much about them, my step dad had the T (2.0 Turbo, but low presure) when they came out, that seemed fast when I took it out on L plates lol. There is a very tidy grey T4 for sale on my local gumtree for £999 for a 51 plate with 200bhp, real tempting but not what I'm after atm. edit: www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/volvo-t4-for-sale/1046295343

It runs on a Lancer based platform. Wonder if that means a T4 would fit in my brother in law's Lancer without too much work...

Not quite a lancer platform, but i doubt its too far off really.
Not sure why but i had imagined the engine having renault roots, but appears renault used the whieblock based B4194/4204 engine and called it the J7.
The touring cars used a b5204.

v40/s40, mitsi spacestar and carisma all built in the same factory in the Netherlands. ive got a space star as a hack at the minute so ive done alittle digging. Mitsi use the same rear suspension as volvo but its own front, which is a pain for me, but you can get cheap coilovers for the v40/s40. Diesels were the fq9 renault engine.

It is a Lancer platform, it is the same CD/CE chassis the Lancer EvoI-III use, which is what the Carisma uses as opposed to the EvoIV-VI which you would think it would use given the era. You just have to look at the engine bay and see the firewall stampings, strut towers, even radiator support beam look near on identical between the two. Suspension components such as control arms, uprights, struts etc are all the same. You can bolt adjustable coilover suspension for EvoI-III in without having to make any mods.
