Hi there I've been looking at the forum for a couple of years now and thought id better join up and show a couple of pics of my friend Reuben's mk2 escort build as I'm sure it will interest a lot on here. He has done all the fabrication work himself on the car. Only thing he didn't do wos the paint. Started of as a mint low mileage jdm s2000 Cut the floor pan off Welded it onto a mk2 escort body So it looked like this when all the metal work wos done Next up wos a top notch paint job Engine in How it sits now. Is running/ driving etc just needs suspension adjusted and mot. And a couple more bits and pieces.

When I saw that you had cut up a mint S2000, I was in shock.... Right up until I saw the finished product. She's a beaut.
Think I've seen something similar a few years back (with a mk2 iirc)

Cheers for all the positive comments. Yeah he's a bit nuts cutting up 2 cars but the escort needed a floor anyway. And he wos going to put an s2000 engine and box just into the escort. Then he priced them and they were like £3500 just for engine and box and then u didn't no what condition it wos or anything. So this way he wos able to drive the car and no it wos a good 1. Then he had the idea why not use the whole floor pan. Then he would have independent suspension, an LSD, disc brakes all round etc... So now he has a 250bhp reliable modern driving mk2 escort. It's being built as a fast road car. Wheels are getting changed aswell when it finished to some compomotive mo5. Also he's not a fabricator buy trade he self taught himself building this so all the metal work etc wos done by him.

I've been doing some reading up on these and a lot of people just drop the engine into one (then have the issue of the prop, diff and sump etc)
Love how well it looks - any other pictures?

That is utterly bonkers, yet brilliant. Top work!

Here's a couple of pics from inside. As you can see the seating position has been moved back so as the engine with using the s2000 floor pan. He's used the s2000 clocks and wiring loom and modified it for the escort lights etc. I'll get more pics of the build and post them up.

excellent stuff! will be interested to see it with some different wheels on, what are the smallest you can run? they came standard with 16s so prob 16s will be the smallest. It's hard to get a set of wheels that are 5x114.3 in the style he wants and also they have to have a high offset so the don't stick out past the arch. Compomotive so them in the mo5 but there special order. He's thinking a set of them in white make it look a bit of a rally theme. Or image spilt rims make a nice minilite style wheel but there custom made so big money.

Sorry but i really don't see the point in doing something like this , you loose as the character of the escort so whats the point . It looks akward too . Like that subaru mk1 escort that keeps going round for sale . Looks disabled .

O don't understand what you mean ? 4 linking as in axle location ? I assume its having all the s2000 gear under it , hence the whole floor , so its just a s2000 with a different body - whats the point ?

people remove the cart springs and fit coilovers + 5 link axle, common modification on escorts. my question, whats the difference between that and fitting two thirds of honda floor pan and rear suspension?
as far as i can see its still mk2 escort from the bulkhead forward.

I assume its having all the s2000 gear under it , hence the whole floor , so its just a s2000 with a different body - whats the point ? yes it has all the s2000 running gear etc. the point he made it is he likes the look of a mk2 escort but to buy or build a proper sorted escort costs a fortune nowadays. So he built something that looks like an escort, is a reliable 250bhp that won't need carbs set up every couple of months, and will be able to drive and enjoy. It may look like he's spent a fortune on it but all the labour wos himself and the s2000 wos broke and all rest of parts sold so got money back for it. So basically what I'm saying is he built a his version of a modern take on a mk2 escort.

NICE! All I can say is he did well. I'm building '68 Mini with Suzuki Swift Gti engine. Many of my mates makes Mini with other engines. I always wished to be able to fit modern engine with classic cars. This is one of them. I would love to have a Volvo Amazon estate with modern diesel engine. It has looks and able to use it everyday.
It is his car after all and he can say I did all my work myself and built not bought! I think there will be bag full of satisfaction in that alone.
I think this is in N. Ireland and they are crazy with Escort so it will fit in well. Don't show any of reg or anything as SVA/IVA may be required.
Cheers Atchi

Building roof chopped, screen raked '68 Mini with G13B 1.3 16v Gti engine with LSD, Yamaha R1 carbs. As well as mk1 Suzuki Swift Gti AWD with a turbo. Drives PHEV Outlander but wishing my mk1 Swift Gti or mk2 CRX Vt were still with me!

Wouldnt it have been cheaper and easier just to fit the engine and box , cheaper than a car and enough money for a Atlas axle , billies etc . I dubt he will have anyone wanting to buy that when he wants to get rid .

But he didn't buy it to sell on. It's a car he built to keep and enjoy. I take it grumpy your a ford owner? Cos that seams to be the only people that think it's wrong to cut the rotten floor of an escort and weld 1 from a honda. And it's a car he wanted to build for himself. Not to win prizes at shows and please everyone else. But it's a free country and your untitled to your opinion
