Well need car for driving to around in Germany rather than getting euro box rental cars, so decide it had to be diesel estate something like a Focus or Astra something sensible.............. Then l saw this and made the mistake of going to look at it before going to se sensible car and after test drive and good look over my heart over ruled my head and l ened up coming away with it, that was Saturday 4th Jan, 5th jan emptied rad and refilled with antifreeze the 6th Jan drove 400 od mile to germany, in some realy curse word weather, the only thing that went wrong was the speedo stopped working and this seams to be typical fault with VDO speedo's These realy are rock bottom for price as only paid 350 for it with MOT and TAX, has FSH upto 125k then has only done 20k in the last 10 years, have changed the cambelt in the hotel underground car part was very easy on the V6 and generaly replacing worn out stuff. The V6 make's a nice noise when pressed into service although it's only 150bhp the torque means you can drive around town at nearly tickover.

Thanks minininjarob, not realy into the lowereing and big wheels bit too old for that and the ride is a bit hard anyway, but very quite, mainly fixing things that don't work, need to replace the lamps because they are absolute and it's scary to drive at night! Need to do something about the oil leeks, look like just abut every gasket and oil seal has turned to stone! have put some of the mechanic in a can in it and it does atleast now not waft burnt oil smell at every junction! Did last night fix the central locking so it now locks with the remote and l don't keep setting off the alarm every time l get into it!

A mate of mine had one exactly the same as that as his 2nd car at 18! It was fantastic an sounded lovely as it had a stainless exhaust.
Felt a lot faster than the figures would have you believe.

Yer it's not what l would call fast off the blocks but overtaking is effortless and yes the howl from the exhaust is addictive especially above 4k revs , but you have the torque to drive around town in 5th at a little over tick over and be still pull away infact l can pull away in 2nd and change from 3rd to 5th, this makes it a good GT car and it's comfortable, quiet and easy to drive. I'm also getting just over 30mpg aswell.

More fettling of the motor, l have sorted the oil presure buzzer the numpty who had it before had fitted the wrong oil presure switch because these have two one is low presure 0.25bar black plastic and then the over 200rpm sensor 0.9bar is white, the first is open circuit ok and the second is closed circuit ok so with the wrong one fitted the system was getting open circuit insted of closed so buzzer was going off, new sensor fitted and nice a quite and that was one of the reasons he was selling it so cheap!! The non working speedo has burst back into life to horray!! Now this bodge found a reciept for 80 pounds for this abombonation yer we've fixed you power steering leak guvnor with a bit of water hose coming out the side of your engine!!

Can you get some full width mesh and spray it satin black? Maybe mesh that's a bit bigger and thicker so it doesn't distort. Looks okay, but the join spoils it for me.

thanks lad's you've confirmed my own opinion in the warm light of day it looks ! funny how you have an idea in your head of what you wanted and the reality is a sminge wide of the mark! couldn't get wider mesh and painting alloy mesh never lasts very long. think l'll put the original ones back on with some foam pads so they don't rattle and try and get hold of the missing driver side one, you can get new ones but it will be shinny and new next to dull and old.... on the plus side with spring here l can moth ball the winter steelies and put the alloys back on, at least it will be quiter then the wintre tyres make a racket!

Also, peanut butter works well too, though obviously only the smooth variety...

Cheers James, l'll give that a try when l get the car back to Blighty Bazz, painting seams to work for a while but flakes off after a while even when l've used under coat. So whats this?, on the door moulding which l guess is plastic there are blisters which l thought were water but when l pocked one with a pin oil came out guess that is oil out of the plastic?, so can l remove the paint and respray it or is it best to get hold of another one, all the other mouldings are ok...

Well further improving of my daily transport, the none working speedo started working again after a 2 month holiday but it went on vacation again after 150 miles so tested the sender and that was ok, so wipped out the clocks which was a peice of curse word! and from google trawl these tiny pins get a almost invisible film of corrosion and stop current passing so stripped and cleaned with 800 grit and yes l can see a difference the camera make it look much brighter than they realy are. Will be driving back to Blighty next week for the MOT Thanks for looking.

if it doesn't already have them, a set a relays and an uprated headlight loom will make a huge difference, it did on my VW T4 and my mk1 golf

Great bargain chap. Boiled Linseed oil also works well on black plastics, available at any good DIY store usually with the stains and varnishes. Use it to keep the wood nice on my M1 Garand but works great on plastics too very little needed per application so a bottle will last you ages.

I've got the timing belt to do on my V6 cabrio very soon. Was it really that easy?! Did you do the water pump at the same time?
Cheers
