I had this advertised before christmas but cant find the original advert on here anymore,
1989 MG Montego 2.0 EFI in British Racing Green.
These cars are very rare now especially the MG model and this one turns heads wherever it goes, people always stop to ask about the car when they see me getting in our out of it , and if had a pound for every time I've heard my dad had one of those best car he ever had or similar comments, then i would be a rich man.
The only reason i am selling the car is because I have too many cars around me and need to sell it to somebody who has the time to put into the car to return it to its full former glory.
The Montego is very solid and runs and drives well, I have been from Birmingham to Nottingham a couple of times and from Birmingham to Yorkshire with no problems , this old girl loves to cruise at 70mph on the motorway and munches the miles with ease. The engine has covered 129,000 miles and still sounds sweet and pulls well.
The car has had alot of money spent on it to keep it on the road and looking respectable but still has a few things that could do with attention to ensure it stays on the road for many more years to come.
THE GOOD
MOT until September 2014 , Tax 28th Feb 2014
New rear shocks
New Battery
Just Serviced with Receipt
New Tyres
CD player (believed to be original)
very solid rear arches (rare on a Montego)
Insurance is £162 A Year fully comp for me on a classic car policy
THE BAD
Headlights have permanent power to them so are constantly on, I believe the switch on the stalk is probably the fault and when you disconnect the wiring plug from the rear of the stalk the headlights turn off which is what i have been doing for now (cowling removed at the moment for easy access),it takes 2 seconds to connect / disconnect the wiring , the stalk will need investigating/ replacing to resolve the problem, or it could just be an issue with a relay.
Central Locking - has given up working a few weeks back, I havent had the time or good enough weather to investigate.
Dashboard - Has a few cracks in it (common with these cars)
Drivers door mirror - Glass Cracked
THE UGLY
The photographs do not show the paintwork in its true light , the car has various deep scratches on the bonnet , laquer peel on the rear spoiler and although the paint work around the rest of the car is very much presentable the bodywork could do with some TLC if you wanted it concourse , personally if i was to keep it i would get the bonnet sorted and leave the rest as it is as it looks good enough in my opinion for a daily use classic car, equally it is a solid enough base car to give the attention , and turn it into a trailer queen if thats what you want .
This is a brilliant classic car that turns heads and has bags of potential with a little bit of work putting into it you could have a Very nice car indeed and maybe even a show winner, it is also good enough to use as your everyday car and be the envy of your friends, you too can hear " my dad had one of those" .
