Hi
Welcome to my thread about my mini road-trip today. Taken on a 125cc MZ with a cruising speed of 50mph and max speed of 55mph.
So. I gots myself out of bed this morning at 8.00am. Which, considering I didn't get to bed till 4.00am was quite good! I breakfasted, showered and packed. I was taking a packed lunch, camera, tripod and stool. Neither the tripod or the camera fitted in my handy oversized top box so had to be strapped to the luggage rack.
(can you tell my parents are away? hence...bike parked in front garden)
Anyway, we departed at 9am. I traveled down the A19. At one point, an artic appeared in my mirror and over about 3 miles got closer and then over took me. That was cool coz I could draft him...hehe. Except, when we got to the tees fly over he pulled away from me on the hill!
I had planned to take the A174 exit and head over torwards Whitby but because of a VW Camper I got distracted and missed my junction. So, some more 50mph cruising and I took the next junction, and worked my way back upto Stokesley.
Just outside of Stokesley I positioned myself at the roadside and took some pictures for a project. I was there for an hour, and then headed back to stokesley..and put half a tank of fuel in.
It'd be rude in my opinion not to follow the B road from Stokesley all the way down to Helmsley. Its really popular with bikers, and after one run down, and even with a top speed of 55, I can REALLY see why. Christ, it was just so much fun. If you've ever ridden a bike you'll probably understand, its just one of those things that you've got to do!
Anyway, got to Hemsley and parked up. You have to pay for parking there - even on a bike :@ And then i bought an ice cream for £2.20...it was only a bloody cone and 2 scoops...g'awd.
I decided to then head home but rather than go back the same way would cut up direction through the North York Moores. That was just absolutely fantastic. Like wow. I was riding down single track lanes, winding up and over valleys, and bending round all sorts of things. I saw a 33% slope today. Heh, it was climbed in 2nd!
I got to Castleton and onto the mainroad and started following it not sure which way I really wanted. I wanted to join the A174 again. It wasn't until I reached Hetton-le-Hole and checked my map I realized I had just drove all the way down this road the wrong way and was now 6 miles away from hemsley instead of the 25 I should of been.
So, back to Hemsley where I put another 9 litres in the tank and gave the bike a quick rest. I then rode back up to Stokesley and back along the a19... which is generally unpleasent at 50mph!
Hmm, so...the bad points of today.
- the brake light connector has broke and needs re-soldering
-randomly, 10 miles from home the speedo stopped working?!
- the leaks from the carb and gearbox have become more noticable.
the good bits.
Well, it was just fantastic. Although, I'm now aching and quite tired. But, it was just so much fun. I need to do it again some time, only this time with a tent, and a quicker bike and over a much bigger distance.
But it was fantasic and I felt the need to share it!!
Pictures.
In the depths of the North Yorkshire Moors:
(^ I had to climb the rest of that hill in 1st !!! )
Me and bike:
(^ doesn't that look like the cover of Jupitors Travels)
And proof that we did make it home!
Thanks for listening.
