this has had a new wooden floor in the back with rubber matting on top prior to me getting it and i think its only had 2 horses in since the new floor

Yeah, now I’m sorry, horses are lovely and all, but that needs to be a camper for sure, horses can walk

well i no longer have horses but this must stay as a horsebox thats what it was built as original so going to keep it that way i think may consider it if i get bored though

That's what I was thinking - even a separate floor with holes/slots/brackets for beds tables etc. On the other hand if you don't actually camp - leave it as is and enjoy! I love this truck. Was looking at the dashboard and the inserts seem almost home-made while the surround clearly isn't. I presume this was a bespoke body and didn't come from the factory like that? Or did it? Do you know any of the history? |

That is just brilliant...
I cannot wait to see this spruced up and back to tip-top condition!
These vans (not horsebox style ones of course!!!) were used in huge numbers by Royal Mail in the 1970's so their reliability and durability are in no doubt.

my old neighbours used to have a Leyland ea converted into a camper ,theres had a body on it by kenning coachworks at Sheffield and was originally used as a mobile canteen for chesterfield transport. I'm sure lambourne used to also make safety cabs for various tractors ,I'm 90% sure ive seen one at my sisters farm but without going and having a look I cant be sure

The back has 2 stalls in for 2 seperate horses basically just a lot of doors with hinges that open different ways rather confusing really as it loads from the side only so have to open 1 side up lead horse in close doors behind it to allow room for next horse not actually tryed to do it as looks to much hassle and horses don't walk backwards to load on so cant see another way of doing it. when sitting in the cab a board lowers down and does make a sleeping compartment but i chucked that mattress out when i got the van |

Sadly i don't think any of the royal mail ones are still on the road i have done plenty of research on this van but nobody seems to have a royal mail one as they all rotted away a few horsebox ones are still out there though |

Thats great i am in regular contact via email with the lady that edits the lambourn website she does not remember this van but she has put me in contact with a guy whos dad designed and built these horseboxes and was supposed to visit me but did not show up i think he got caught up somewhere she also getting hold of a few people that worked for lambourn coachbuilders to see what information she can find out about these horsesboxes and who had them etc |

i am giving a virtual tour of my van as so many people have not saw one before this is the walkway between the stalls and cab you can open the door from cab and walk into the back also used to store horse tack etc  |

spring loaded catches for the moveable frames but some plonka has painted straight over them so a little knock with the hammer should loosen them then fill with grease i think  |

and finally the head is off for a decoke and general clean up as nothing wrong with this engine just looked in poor condition so I'm thinking some new paint and some colourful hoses will spruce it up   |
