The thing with a faulty premise, is that you can use it to argue what you like and sound plausible, given the premise being true. Heres an example.... Trees are good. Trees reduce CO2. BUT only in their growing phase, ie when the carbon is used to build the tree. Once mature it is net neutral, it respires as much as it photosynthesises and therefore is not helping the planet. Nice to sit under on a sunny day with a cold beer, but not helping the planet. SO if you grow lots of fast growing trees, then cut them down once they reach maturity, then plant more immediatly you have a scheme for removing LOTS of nasty CO2 from the atmosphere. (and loads of lumber to sell.) This wood though, must not be burnt or allowed to rot, that would release the CO2 again, so you must make MDF furnature and glossy DFS pamphlets from it, and circulars from easyloans etc, then you must bury them in a big hole in the ground instead of recycling them, so there is demand for the trees you are growing, and so the carbon is locked in the ground to become coal again. Pitch it right, you could probably get a carbon reduction grant for running a lumber mill

so what we need to save the planet is cars made from spruce pine and run on rape seed oil?

yeah. I did wonder why they carbon tax biodiesel, cos its by definition neutral ie non fossil, but they have got to the point of no return where all CO2 regardless of source is perceved bad. Better stop breathing then

You're always gonna have problems lifting a body in one piece. Apparently, the best thing to do is cut up a corpse into six pieces and pile it all together. When you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them. It's no good leaving it in the freezer for your mum to discover. Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You gotta starve the pigs for a few days then the chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims and pull the teeth out for the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course but you don't want to sieve through pigshit, do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least pigs to finish the job in one sitting... ...so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression...."as greedy as a pig".

WOW what a response this thread has caused,i also noticed that some people on here don't like 4x4s but also did'nt feel the need to lob eggs at me when they see me driving about. The thing that worries me the most is that today it's eggs tommorow its a paving slab of a motorway bridge and before you know it i'm in a box 6 feet under.I did'nt buy it as a lifestyle car i bought it as it was a very useful tool for my whole house hold to use.and today we are using it to take my girlfriends old sofa to the recycling centre rather than dump down some country lane .

The whole thing winds me up. This whole new idea that we reduce our 'carbon footprint' and become 'carbon neutral' and other buzzwords that have been in existence for a shorter time than some of the food in my fridge..... AARGH!
Collectively, humans and their devices put out a tiny fraction of the total amount of carbon emissions that the world has to deal with. A fivefold increase (for example) in a tiny fraction becomes a slightly less tiny fraction so this idea that we're singlehandedly destroying the earth with our BMW X5s and bringing on the extinction of various lifeforms is quite ridiculous. You'd also have to plug volcanos and somehow convince decaying plant and animal matter not to emit any gases, as well as get the entire animal population of the world to hold its breath for a while.
All in all very little we do has any effect either way on what the earth is going to do. Chances are we're destined for another ice age, from memory I think we're overdue one and that will probably wipe us all out. Given that fact, I think tonking around in a V8 Range Rover is the least of our worries.
In any case, what really annoys me from a more R-R point of view is this belief that anything on raised suspension is pure evil. Never mind that a lot of landrovers, range rovers, SJ410s, shoguns etc are run be enthusiasts so are a) probably running in better tune than many cars and b) have been saved from the scrapyard numerous times with a bit of welding and some weekends of oily hands - remind me how much more energy it takes to make a new car than run an old one? Conversely, our Mondeo has a rather poorly engine and hence struggles to get 23mpg. My old Audi got 14mpg around town. Do I get eggs thrown at me? Nope!

Just had to tax an `02 reg Proton Satria 1.3, it cost £112.50 for 6 months. A 1.3 that costs over £200 a year to tax? That must be doing some serious planet paggery to warrant that, yet a warmed up old shape 3-dr Colt is probably the least likely target for any ovulation based tomfoolery I can think of!
