Not standing up for his selling practices (shill bidding etc), just saying I do have first hand experience of a car sold by him in the past (I.e. it's sat on my drive) and it's every bit as good as it's described in his advert. I wouldn't exactly describe his adverts as riddled with mistakes either, not by the normal standards of eBay or for that matter the classifieds on here.
And the fact that you could buy a tidy bigger engined car for the money is irrelevant, as what you couldn't do is buy one that's so close to factory fresh. Different strokes for different folks- some of us quite like the lower spec, smaller engined motors, and some people put more value on a car for being completely original than for being gloriously restored.
I suspect a lot of the negativity is from people who are thinking either "why can't I find cars like that" or "why can't I afford them"...
