Today ( easter Saturday) the Chinese are paying $367AUD per ton for Scrap .An old merc ( like what I drive...) is worthy almost $390 as scrap,thats why bombsite car yards are dissapearing faster than chocolate at weightwatchers.
Theres one famous place here in Brisnyland called Kelly's.They seem to have been founded to sell off trade-ins from larger car dealerships.It's always interesting to wander amongst some really esoteric stuff in there and it's all cheap.
One i stopped myself buying was a W116 merc 450SEL with 4 speed manual $2000 AUD with rego etc..
But even Kellys is getting thin in the stock as cars are worth more as KIA raw material .
In the UK you have new (EU?) laws which say that a dealer is liable for fualts that appear later after a new buyer gets his classic home haven't you?.That would wipe out 'old car' specialists pretty quickly but the whole thing can be boiled down to collusion between the blair government and the bigger car manufacturers to get rid of older cars off the road and to make you buy new cars and keep them in BIZ.
