Oh FFS. Surely the Government/MPs/civil servant busy bodies have more important things to worry about. And even if they don't, why do they never consider the broader aspects of their half baked ideas. Whatever is going on. Is it me? Or should we just put a big 'out of order' sign on this country and could the last one out turn off the lights.

As stated it a private members bill. This is the time when any old member of parliament can put a bill of their drafting beofre the house. Could be anything from "this house requires the prime minister to paint his ass blue and dance through the streets naken evcery wendesday Bill (2007)" to bring back cpaital punishment or to make some weird technical tax allowance for residential care homes etc. This time its about registration of off-road motorvehicles.
Normally private members bills are such tosh they just get fillibustered to death and forgotten. This one seems to be rattling along quite well.

There does seem to be an unprecedented number of complete f##kwits in modern politics, quite disappointing really.
To be honest though, there seems to be unprecedented numbers of folk who fall into the 'f##kwit' category in general, certainly in the work arena and in public behaviour so maybe its natural.
How do you go from wanting to deal with rogue mini-moto riders (a sentiment which I would strongly support) to a complete outright ban on all bikes which have not had full EU type approval? It is total bo11ox. I presume you could whip all the spark plugs out of your bike collection and claim they were not bikes but ornaments. Saying that how could you apply that retrospectively, theres no way you could.
How about dealing with mini motos by issuing police with boot-mounted crushing machines capable of simultaneously crushing the bike with its snot-nosed greebo rider aboard plus his shaven-headed tomato face idiot dad who bought him the bike, all at once.
Last week I read about a great new scheme to 'encourage' 16-yr olds not to drop out of further education courses by fining them £50 if they did. What sort of 'policy' is that? You couldn't make it up.

I heard a talk show last week too that reported its been mentioned that Bikes produce more pollution than cars. O RLY? performace models may blast some fumes but it it used every day? is it ridden at max revs all the time, does it add to congestion, does it chugg up the road? I agree with xb, modern politics is disappointing.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

There is already enough law in place to allow for the crushig of minimotos used in public places. Notts and Derby police do this. In fact Derby police crush those used on private grounds as well. If its being used, its illegal. crush. simple.
