Some good pics there, sad but who knew back then?! Hell in 97 I couldn't sell my MK2 escort RS2000 I ended up with £180 cash and a mk1 sierra estate thinking I had it off! lol The banger boys love the mondeo's at the moment and I have noticed how few there are on ebay and the like these days! especially the mk1 ....................

Brings back fond memories,as I lived round the corner from Long Eaton stock car stadium .Health amd saftey! what health and saftey? Does anyone know if this stadium still exists as I have been living in Germany the last 25 years? I may well be wrong but I think Long Eaton Raceway shut about '97, the Speedway team was revived a few years ago and races at Leicester Lions track in Beaumont Leys, Leicester.

Yes, its been closed down a long time, was just overgrown and derelict the last time i passed a few years ago. Used to go regular myself to watch back in the 90's. There was plans years ago to re-open it but never came to anything. Possibly due to finance or planning issues, being almost in the centre of the town probably meant the locals were glad to see the back of it. Shame really.

More Pics Poor poor Alfa Romeo!(Graham Bull again), Escort van and Datsun 180B in the chaos too, the driver of the Maxi was brave painting "THIS WAY UP" on the tail gate! Taken in 1989 Another Datsun, this time Graham Bull in the big Laurel Adam Smith surveys the post race damage done to his Fiat, complete with tied down boot, if I remember correctly he drove the car to the meeting and got a lift back. Paddock shot from 1985 with a Vauxhall Cresta amongst others The Princess was a very popular car, cheap, plentiful and surprisingly tough As you can see from this 1987 Bangers photo. Datsun Sunny in RWD stocks Brownhills Boys Hunter from 1989 Bombers And just to show how close you could get to the action, Rover P6 late in the season of 1989.

'Scuse the forum resurrection but I found some more pics when rooting in the loft. All I believe from Trent Raceway in 1985 and 86 Datsun 280C Team Demons Van/Estate racing which only ran at Trent in '85 Infield shot, check out the Granada control car! Another of the Demons cars, Rover P5B Mk1 Escort van, not official Marlboro livery Van Bangers Malcolm Electrical Marina complete with TV on the roof and Task Force racing Bedford CF Bangers with a Mk4 Zephyr or Zodiac in the middle of the pack Bangers again, not sure what the red coupe is? Possible a Datsun 180B SSS RWD Stocks Paddock shot with the Demons at work on what was once a Westy by the looks of it.

Brings back memories seeing those
My cousins used to a race a lot at hendsford , Birmingham wheels and a few other places.
Infact my cousin was lighting rod champion a few times (years) , last I heard he still had a very high spec , standard looking race engine in his dads garage who was also a very successful racer back in the 70 and 80s.

I live a mile from Foxhall Stadium and have been a regular since the 80's. Do a bit of work at a local garage that's home to 442 Mungo, a legend in 1300cc and 2000cc stock cars. The guys are car nuts, the yard has everything from a mk 4 Escort RST to a Lincoln Continental (neither going near a track), a selection of hand built stock cars and their awesome 70's coach modded into a team bus / transporter. Just done a sponsorship deal for next season, can't wait to see my company on a car. Top 80's pics by the way.

Great pics, I used to go to crayford stadium when I was a kid loved it there, it's a greyhound track now, went to arena essex but the atmosphere was never the same as crayford, the rollover competitions were great in Austin Cambridges we loved watching them

Amazing photos - thanks for sharing. Nostalgia's a funny thing isn't it; at the time they were all cheap cars, yet most of us cringe a little when we see them getting wrecked now. It's hard to imagine feeling sad about Kia Cee'ds and Ford Focus' getting battered on the track in years to come...

I work on the estate just behind, basically after the pub burnt down the locals blocked any reopening citing noise etc. It's now totally gone and made way for a new boring housing estate, TBH you can see why as it's right in a built up area.

Is that a little breadvan in the first van/estate pic? Bit keen going up against all that weight! But I guess, if you can outrun it...

Henham was re-opened a couple of years ago and run's bangers and stocks again under the new name of Stansted Raceway. I have some old pictures I should dig out from Arena Essex and Mildenhall late 90's early 2000's and get them scanned on

I have some old pictures I should dig out from Arena Essex and Mildenhall late 90's early 2000's and get them scanned on i raced at henham/stansted raceway this season (first time on track ) in the new 'dirt rod' class which is a 'limited contact' formula for standard cars with cages or banger h-frames. brilliant fun and about as cheap a way into motorsport as you can get - i think a season of 14 meetings with 4 races per class cost me around £5/600 including the car, preparation, harness, fuel, license and repairs! next year there is going to be a unlimited rwd class of dirt rods which should be fun to watch. also racing are bangers, hotrods and junior bangers driven by 10yrolds up to 16/17yr olds - some of them can barely see over the steering wheel and put many of the adult drivers to shame
