Okay, cheers. I did take the little clip in panels off and I painted them black with a plastic paint, they do look good, so I sort of saw what's needed.
Had similar on my W123 series with the sun roof channels. Ended up using some oversized wash wipe tubes and making a new set of pipes through the A pillar. The old one's had perished and them blocked and then (as I didn't use it often), the sunroof stopped working as the pivot points had corroded enough to prevent the sun roof moving on it's parallelogram but it was an easy fix in the end.
Just wondering too if the rubber that is in front of the channels shouldn't be a bit bigger. Might have perished. Looks like they have lost the top ridge which (presumably) sits against the bonnet preventing water getting in the heater air intake...

Nice ride Mercdan. Shiny paintwork. Once the paint has dried so to speak on the right hand side, i'll set about clay barring and buffing mine. I have a set of 8 hole, 16" E class wheels with 205/55 tyres to go on soon. I agree, best car I have had. Maybe the W123 series tops it a little in terms of looks and it doesn't matter where in the world the TV crews are - even in the worst wars, there's always a W123 series in the picture it seems.

That is lovely. My experience (caveat: albeit limited) of the W202 isn't great. All the ones I've encountered are either rotten, rotting, really tired inside or a combination of all of the above. The Sport model looked alright but the rest of the range doesn't do much for me. I always thought that generation of Merc was pretty soulless and bland, being honest about it. They just didn't stand out, or look particularly classy. I'd take a W123 over one any day of the week.

To put it into a bit of perspective I've owned a ridiculous amount of cars Since I passed my test in 1985 Somewhere around 400 cars have come and gone Most cars have been in my ownership for about 3 months Then sold on, I bought the W202 I have now six years ago I've owned a few at the same time including three other W202s I never tire of this one the 2.5 td is a lovely engine The car is solidly built and the interior is fantastic in its mushroom colour, my mrs had it for a year whilst I drove my E300 td,,I could never sell this w202 it's part of the family and has never let us down , the front arches have minor rust bubbles which will be repaired soon, the reason I haven't had it done already? I love using it daily I guess it may be sought after in around ten years Everyone has their favourite car this will always be mine No price would buy it and that's a very bold statement for me as all my cars have had a price!!

Yep, I drove it for 6 weeks solid all over Europe just a few months after I bought it. Only once broke down - fuel pump relay. But since acquiring this W202, it has restored my faith in cars. The Cdi was fine but soul less and very difficult to work on myself. The similarities between the W202 (1995) and the W123 (1982) is far . far greater than the similarities with the W202 and the W203. Personally, I think thie W202 and the E Class of the '93 - '00 are the last of the true Mercs. The first mistake was buying Chrysler and the Second, changing all the Merc dealerships into Franchises. My blue C220 Sport was great fun to drive. all be it harsh on rough roads but it seemed to be flimsy. It didn't have that solid Merc/Executive car feel. It's growing on me. Like all cars, if you get one that's been well cared for, it makes an immeasurable difference. My W202 had 1 owner from new who chucked so much money at it. She's really growing on me.

I must admit, my head is now telling me to avoid it and get a Triumph 2000 instead, A bit of common sense in a sea of doom! I hope you got one, T2000 prices have gone through the roof since 2013! Steve Sadly not. I still covet a mk2 2000 but as of yet it eludes me. I ended up with an E320 did W210. Mainly as it's best suited to the occasional work usage, and it's certainly performed well towing the Vitesse to RRG and back this year. It has also been one of the most troublesome cars I've owned. It's just a good job it's a nice car to drive

On the plus side, W202s make nice donors - the 250TD is a nice engine, and perhaps the rotten pears have devalued lots of other decent Mercs making them more viable

Please help.
If anyone has a petrol W202 mid 90's, can they give me the part number for the panel on the left hand (o/s) side of the engine (as you look at it from the front) which covers the fuse box, servo etc please?
Mine hasn't got one and I think it would be prudent to get one before the really wet weather sets in. Not the plain wet weather that we are having - the slightly colder stuff we get later on.
I also want to clean the engine bay. Some nutter covered all the Alu they could see (rocker cover etc) with a film of thick and I presume, non UHT lacquer. Now it's clouded and stinks when the engine gets a little 'ot. I used a brillo pad to get rid of most of it. Going tp polish it to within an inch of it's life but there's still remains on top of the bolts and the recesses. I think it will be a Nitromors job and after that a jet wash. There's also some lacquer on the intake pipe! It looks too contrived to be a spill but too messy to be deliberate. There's runs everywhere.

Try carb cleaner and a soft brass wire brush. Shifted lacquer off my ally stuff a treat. Excuse the finger!

Cheers George. I'll try that. Obviously the solvent in Carb cleaner does the business. I have some Petrol fuel system cleaner. I wonder if that would do.

Can someone please give me a part number for the panel pictured on the top left hand corner of this engine bay. It covers the fuse box and servo etc?
