Capri's great for racing the local yutes in Mk5 Zetec S'. I won a game of "how much noise can you make leaving Beckton" against some Civics with JDM Y0 raspy exhausts too, that was very satisfying. The Landy's the best though - Range Rovers, V8/ Puma Defenders, any and all chav-spec motors. I miss driving that

My ZX doing 70mph will easily overtake more modern cars that are doing, say, 60mph. It's all about physics. I'm studying this as a degree now ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Back in the 80s I had an Avenger with an Essex 3.0 V6, overtook another Avenger with 4 lads going up a short hill on the local bypass....I had an Escort on the trailer behind at the time. The double take was amusing.

I have a 2008 kia picanto not a retro but had to share my experience.was on my home to find the police have blocked off the road due to a rolled truck only 300m before my road. Now only 2 routes home a 35km round trip to get access from the other side of the truck or a 2.5km shortcut across a dairy farm along rutted track a very scary thought in a small fwd car with no ground clearence. To add to the drama we had a week of heavy rains and the tracks had turned to swimming pools and thick mud, I thought what the hell go for it. Go to be honest I was really white knuckling it and very nervous with the little car in second I flew across the field passing 2 4x4 lexus stuck deep in the mud and then a freelander also stuck and then discovery a km before the access road the farmer stopped me and told me no ways you're getting across the dairy to muddy but I pushed on passing a isuzu and hilux 4x4 up to the axles in mud Got to my access road with no problems I'm sure the weight of the car counted in its favour but the skinny little 165/60x14 counting against it the looks on peoples faces was priceless.a few days later one of the locals presented me with a sticker for my car that read "when I grow up I want to be a fortuner"

And when we got to builth wells he was asking is it turbo or g40. My passenger said no, its slow as fook but he has big balls. One less facebook friend, lol.

There's a great story about this: ![](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/scum-speedy/IMAG0150.jpg) When I creamed this (well, not this specific one but you get the idea): ![](http://www.d2forged.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Maserati-Granturismo-D2FORGED-CV11-Wheels-02.jpg) I was just typing out the whole story but it all looked a bit stupid and childish. Just use your imaginations.

I have a few to tell first one was in the snow in about 1996 me flying past 4x4s and everything in a battered old mini and never got stuck the next one was in my last mini std wheeltrims brown vinyl interior badly painted in poundland black rust patches everywhere but running a 1300 mg metro engine embarrassed a few chavs with that another one I was going home from town with a mate in the car which is a mk3 Cortina 2litre which at the time had a blowing exhaust and a knackered carb a nova 1.4 sr pulls up at the side of me revving engine and looking at me so my mate encourages me lights change and I left it stood it came past me later when I backed down to the speed limit I could see his girlfriend head in hands the last one was in the Cortina again in 2009 id just driven to wales from Sheffield with a blowing exhaust and saw a new Porsche boxter broke down at the other side of the roundabout so drove round bipped horn and waved as I went past I have loads of fun in the range rover because its a classic in green everybody assumes its a diesel then find out its a 3.9 v8 when I leave them standing

One time, driving around the ring round, in between the McDonald's drive thru and Toys r us, I beat every known supercar in the entire universe in my Metro city. It was because I got the biting point just right and made a brrm brrm sound through gritted teeth. After that I was given a key to the city by the Mayor who announced me a driving hero.

I was leading a bunch of minis up towards a mountain pass. Some joker in a turbo Falcon (350hp 4 door rwd Aussie car) decided he would overtake us all, but he didn't make it in front of me. He sat just off my bumper along the straight bit before we got to the hill. As soon as the first corner arrived I lost him, and all the other guys got stuck behind him. It wasn't until the long uphill section that my 35hp let me down and he got in front. We pestered him up the rest of the way then!

A while back, I 'ad an A4 TDi at some lights due to superior lane selection about 3 times in a row. He overtook me and raced up to the red lights; I knew the road so slowed down a bit for them to change - they went green just as I approached them, rowing my way through the 'box back up to the 40mph limit. Cue clutch dumping and wheel spinning from the Audi...but he didn't get past before it went back down to one lane. Cue tailgating and light flashing from the Audi ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) People do get particularly annoyed if you do that in the Panda, invariably haring past at the first available opportunity - just to confirm that their expensive X5 is faster than a 22 year old car with 45hp afterall. Had a good dice with a Mini Mayfair on the A30 (again in the Panda) - the Mini was quicker down hill, the Panda up them...they were about even on the flat. Much entertainment, all within the speed limit ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Took my 2ltr 8v Vauxhall powered Toledo to Prodrive test track the day before the STAR90 show and was amazed and delighted, in a field of TR2-8s Stags, Dolly Sprints and some very powerful non Triumph cars, to only be passed by 4 all day, a 5ltr TVR, a Cosworth powered Capri (alleged 322bhp), a brand new Scirocco V6 turbo and a 4.6ltr TR8. The best competition was from a couple of track day Sprints that I could catch but not pass. My Tolly only makes 125bhp on a good day!

I recall many entertaining drives along the East Lands road on Sunday nights in my old MKII Escort. Time it right and keep your speed to 65-70 and you hit every light as it turns green. Which really winds up people in much newer cars who blast past you doing 85 then get caught at the next set.
My recently purchased Saab NG900 FPT seems to catch a few people out too.

When I had my Capri it was like a bright red rag to a bull. I used to get bullied all the time by fat pricks in mostly big German metal. Luckily it had a Cosworth under the bonnet. The most exotic car I managed to 'see off' was a new shape Aston Martin Vantage. He was trying to push me along in traffic for ages through Newcastle so I held him up. When we got a clear road and he moved out to overtake, I left him behind. The worrying thing was he took great offence to been shown a clean pair of heels by a 30 year old Capri and when the race was clearly over due to approaching traffic he went screaming past and almost destroyed a learner driver who was taking their time on a roundabout. To be honest, I always wanted a properly fast retro car but now I don't miss it at all. Too much drama!
